Hello forums people,

OS: Windows 7 professional
motherboard: Asus M4A78LT-M LE
CPU: AMD Athlon II x4

I've been wrestling with this all day.
Yesterday I re-installed Windows 7 professional 64 bit to get rid of 5 years of clutter. I was unable to install the OS with both 2GB sticks of RAM and my geForce 460 video card in.

I took out one RAM stick and the video card and installed the OS. Today, I am unable to start windows with the second RAM stick or the video card in.

To check the RAM sticks, I have put each RAM stick individually into each of the two RAM slots on the motherboard without a problem, I only have the problem when both sticks are in.

The BSOD occurs in the exact same way as when I boot with the video card installed. I get to the "starting windows" screen, the little colored balls animate for a moment and then freeze. Then I go to the bsod where I am told acpi.sys is responsible. The way that two pieces of hardware individually cause the same crash makes me think that it is not a problem with the video card or the motherboard physically either.

I have updated my BIOS today to the latest version. I have run the windows 7 startup repair from my intall CD, it failed at the "System Files Integrity Check and Repair" test with error code 0x490

I am unable to boot in safe mode with 2 RAM sticks or the video card.

I'm looking up cmd windows memory tests I can do, as well as updating the chipset now. I would appreciate any direction,

Severin

EDIT: I may have installed the "debug/checked" version of windows 7 professional. I have been reading that this throws errors instead of tolerating faults like a friendly OS should.

Hello there!

It does sound like Hardware but the best way to test the RAM is using the program called MemTest86+ follow this article Run Hardware Diagnostic : Hardware Diagnostic | Captain Debugger (RAM and GPU)

This driver Bs_def.sys i.e. BIOS Flash Driver is a driver file from company AsusTek Computer Inc. maybe it's good idea to re-flash the BIOS.
