Solved BSOD During System Restore, error 0x000000d1

Hi,

Recently I've gotten back into SW:tOR so I have been playing incredibly large amounts of it possibly putting stress son my laptop.

Sometime yesterday for the first time in a few months the game crashed, No BSOD and no data was stored in Mini dump. i thought it was nothing then it happened more frequently. i got a BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD
(Again wasnt saved in Mini Dump logs)

I ran Driver Verifier for 24 hours no crashes

So i went to play again today another crash not a BSOD but freezes and distorts the image while making a screeching sound. i restart my laptop;

Ran full scans of Malewares Bytes, Microsoft Essentials, My Intel SSD toolbox. Nothing

My laptop then starts freezing and restarting immediately when i log into my desktop page. My external Hardrive's software begins to "Stop Working"

I decided to do a system restore to my last windows update and i get a BSOD

I'm not Tech savvy i just picked up a few things from friends and previous members who have helped me on this website before.

I'm at a loss it could be time for some new Thermal grease on my CPU/GPU
But i wouldn't know where to begin if that didn't work

The Intel Driver Update Utility isn't giving me anything out of Date and when i go through the Download Center to look for the correct Processor driver i have no such luck finding one that looks right

is it possible the driver isn't out of date but something else caused it to fail?

absolutely possible crash dumps are not a finite process often you get a few dumps run them all and it helps to build a picture and can give you an idea of whats going on but that error code in your dump is caused by a driver will have a better look and come back

do you have a fingerprint scanner on your machine or do you use one?
and what is the protector suite you have installed?

The thing thats strange is that the two drivers i mentioned earlier will not load properly and they should because they are both intel drivers, i wonder if theres a problem with them im now wondering if we could remove and reinstall them possibily

The Protector suite i have in the program that goes with the Finger Print scanner, the sad part is that it never worked right after i wiped out and re installed Windows so its just kind of wasted space.

Tried playing Star Wars froze, restarted External Hardrive's software stopped working.

SFC/Scannow came up clean no integrity violations

At the top you can see the reference to the two drivers i flagged earlier that are not loading properly i would not expect to see that or should i say not expect to see those drivers, also at the bottom you can see three drivers that have been created that start dump_ it is my understanding (and i may be wrong here) that when a driver is involved in a crash>dump then an extra driver can be created which is the faulting drivers name prefixed with dump_

Now again the weird thing is all the drivers that we keep talking about are windows and intel stuff which we dont usually see so im gonna go out on a limb here and say i think you either have a problem with your mobo drivers or a problem with windows drivers or both. The two we looked at earlier you would normally get from your mobo manufacturers site but as yours is a lappy im not sure, at the moment i recommend you run the scan i linked above and double check your windows is up to date. Then may be worth trying to update gfx driver as well just in case
To update your graphics drivers to the latest ones, its best to uninstall old drivers then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html then install new drivers from here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx step 2 has an auto detect and install option if your not sure

You could also visit your lappy manufacturers site to see if you can get any updated motherboard drivers chipset/audio/network etc

Okay so how you were saying early the problem becomes more apparent with the information from more crashes.

well i crashed again twice this morning

the 2nd nothing was running.

I can find the drivers online at my manufactures website i also still have the disk of drivers it came with.

Should i consider a Windows 7 Re-installation?

re-installation is always an option but a last resort really although it will give a good clean install with no factory bloatware and back to good speeds its just a pain in the ass reinstalling everything its up to you

If you dont have updated install media including SP1 updates i would download updated copy of win iso from here just be sure to get the same version as you are currently running and have a key for (or it wont work) ie Home Premium, Profesional etc. Have a look through these tutorials for some install guide not sure which one applies to you but scan them all if you have time

There is a general concensus around this forum regards AV, we recommend using Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows with the inbuilt windows defender firewall & Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer as the on demand scanner for malware, just be careful when installing to uncheck the start free trial box to give you the non expiring free version. We see to many problems/BSODs relating to AVG and Kaspersky etc.

I would recommend when you get your system installed be sure to create a system image for future use so if any problems you have an image to restore from, its up to you and how much storage space you have but i take several, one of the vanilla install and more when i have added in users and installed programs and stuff then you have always got the choice to go back just be aware if you create more than one you need to rename the first backup before creating another one in the same location or it will overwrite and leave you with one backup

If your not installing from original media (dvd) then make sure you create a recovery disc (you get the option after creating a system image) then you always have bootable recovery options

Hi Pauly,

Re-install Was a success all Drivers installed and updated
Microsoft Essentials/MalewareBytes were the first things i installed (After Drivers/Updates)

Backup: System Image onto external Hard drive.

I appear to be good to go thanks again for all the help
