Hey all,

I have been having a reoccurring BSOD 124 since I built this computer last fall, but only during graphically intense games(i.e. The Witcher 3, Black Desert Online), but I will sometimes go weeks at a time without having this issue. My specs are as follows:

Intel i7-5820k CPU
MSI X99A SLI PLUS Mobo
EVGA GTX 960 2gb (Refurbished GPU)
32g (4x8) G. Skill Value series RAM
Samsung 850 EVO 250g SSD
Samsung 850 EVO 500g SSD
WD Blue 1TB HDD
Corsair RM 750 PSU (swapped this in place of a Seasonic 650 Gold Semi-modular that went bad. May have damaged the Mobo?)

This machine was built as a Pro Tools audio workstation capable of gaming on the side. I have been able to run massive Pro Tools sessions with zero issues, utilizing all 6 cores of the CPU and much of the 32g of RAM. I have run stress tests using MemTest86, Prime95, and FurMark repeatedly, as well as several other stress test applications, with zero errors. The only issues I have are these sporadic full on freezes that crash my computer during more demanding games and it is always the same error. I've uploaded a copy of the latest BSOD. From all the tests, re-seating, cleaning, and research I've done, I believe I must have either a faulty MOBO or GPU. If there is any insight the pros on this site have to offer before I go dropping a few hundred dollars to test these components I'm all ears. Thanks in advance!

We have a PCI Express error, not frequently occuring but does reveal something :)
It seems you are right, the PCI-E port or the GPU is at fault.
I would suggest to see if you can borrow a GPU from someone to replace it with the current one. If with the borrowed GPU your system still crashes your motherboard is the problem, else the GPU.

I have tried the GPU in multiple PCI slots and have received the same error from time to time. Would that be definitive proof that it's the GPU failing? Again, this error is sporadic and somewhat difficult to duplicate consistently. I will try and get a hold of another GPU to test with.
