BSOD every time start up laptop

setting up a brand new laptop today and all went well but on restart it crashed to Blue screen with Driver irql not less or equal with a file name of ndis.sys - though the screen disappears so quickly it is hard to grab the detail. it is now in a loop that gets as far as the windows 'please wait' screen and then crashes to the blue screen. It had been updating the installed software with 10 new windows updates and when restating the laptop on that occasion - the first with the blue screen, it was unable to complete the updates and reverted back to pre changes. I am unable to break the cycle to make any changes.

see if you can boot to safe mode and uninstall your LAN adapter and reboot

He is correct about booting in safe mode. Just in case you dont know hit F8 repeatedly when you re-boot

Thanks guys - where do i find the LAN adapter to uninstall? I am not that techie!

click on the start orb and in the search box type device manager then look for network adapters

need more info make and model would be a big help normally go to makers website and download the driver

it is a Sony Vaio W series net book with Windows 7 Starter preinstalled
