Hi there,

This is my first post so please excuse any rookie mistakes.

I'm assuming you can see my system specs as I've already filled them out. The computer BSOD's at seemingly random times. The only time it can be reproduced is when using Illustrator CS6 working on a file that has multiple placed images in it. It's sporadic otherwise. The fans whir like a jet-plane taking off before the BSOD, which makes me wonder if something is overheating.

Find a .dmp file attached.

I would appreciate any help on identifying why it BSOD's. It's driving me nuts!

I'll answer any questions you have, and do anything you tell me, to fix it.

Thanks for your time.

1. SFC \scannow returned that the verification process showed that some files were corrupt but couldn't be fixed. Find CBS.log attached.

2. Chk Disk returned that "No problems were found on the device or disk. It is ready to use"

3. I'm running the PC with just windows services today (started yesterday afternoon). Will do this for a couple days and see if it BSODs or not. Then add some thjird party services in.

4. MemTest went through 7 passes with no errors. However, I was watching the CPU temperature: it was mostly around 65-70 deg through the test, but sometimes went up to 80-87 deg... is that normal?

5. Hard drive test passed. I used WD within microsoft test. Much quicker - and I don't have much time to run tests as work needs to be done haha...

6. Also find Speccy Summary attached :D Will keep an eye on the temps also. It's a cold day here in NZ today, and it's only been on for 20 minutes in the shot, so the temp isn't very high at all!

Thanks heaps for your help :)

There's only the one error showing in the SFC scan -
Code:

I'll post a fix for that later.

However, there are a number of warnings in the background CBS log - and it would be worth running the CheckSUR tool to see if that catches other problems...

Please downloadand save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need tolook in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft DownloadCenter)

Run it - The toolcan take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install')depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear tofreeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result islogged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip theCheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

I've uploaded a file - icsaa.zip- to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print theseinstructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, starttapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of whichshould be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\icsaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'NotFound' error try
DIR D:\icsaa
or
DIR E:\icsaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder willneed to be substituted (for<drive>) into the followingcommand...

XCOPY<drive>:\icsaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)andwhen the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit CommandPrompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in anElevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, andpost a new link

CheckSUR found and fixed a couple of problems - the remaining 'errors' are normal for IE10 installs on Win7

There are no major errors in the CBS log, and SFC reports clear.

How is the system behaving now?

And I'll run it over this week and see if anything happens. I'll add back in some of the third party services and see what happens too. Thanks :)

Well that didn't last long lol.

It just froze on me. no BSOD, just froze. Had InDesign, Illustrator, Firefox and a couple explorer windows open. Adobe products had no actual files open. Only thing different to a minute before was an adobe update icon in the system tray.

Any thoughts? Any logs I could get to you?
