in previous thread I described a laptop system slowing to a crawl. Eventually, under warranty, the system board was replaced and I've built a new, clean Windows 7 Installation. Today, a similar symptom appeared: system slowed to a crawl, and crashed. Help!?

Attached are the usual zipped file and also a log of my reinstall steps.

Thanks.

Thanks Northersoul55.

I had wrongly configured for a "kernel" dump, so no file was generated. Alas. So now we wait!

OH JOY! Another BSOD. Files attached. I've also run SFC /scannow, and it replied BOTH times with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Following 2nd tutoerial, I found FORTY-FIVE infcache.1 files! (see attached screens shots)None were in the path described in tutorial, so I worked on the one in the most similar path: "c:\drivers\storage\"

Should I do this with others? Some appear to be for various languages... do these matter?

AFTER REBOOT: there were forty-three infcache.1 files, so it appears that whatever I deleted was NOT regenerated. Since tutorial says needed files will simply regenerate, I'm going to try again and delete them all... report back later.

In third link you provided, I followed and downloaded MSFT update... my systems says "already installed."

You guys are a tremendous resource. Thanks. I'd buy you a pint if I could find the button ;)

Curious...

All the infcache.1 files that I found earlier had the same 2009 date--long before I did a clean reinstall of Win 7. How that I deleted ALL of the infcache.1 files, only one, with current date appears. At very least I've cleaned out the old stuff? We'll see how that goes...

The logs point to your USB drivers again, please follow these steps:
  • Start> Then Type Device Manager
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • Uninstall drivers (for every listed device, do not delete)
  • Reboot the computer
The drivers should now be automatically be reconfigured by Windows upon reboot.

If you are using any USB devices, then remove these from the USB ports (leave keyboard and mouse),
update all the devices with the latest drivers, including the mouse and keyboard if applicable.

Follow this tutorial and Turn off USB Suspension:

Turn off USB Selective Suspend

Cheers

Dave

Followed instructions. (I neglected to mention that I did follow earlier instruction to remove USBs, etc. Seemed better for a bit.) Several devices refused to uninstall--either by not disappearing or by reinstalling themselves before I could reboot.

Have rebooted and now we wait some more. In the mean time, can we determine the specific USB device causing this from the following?
USBPORT.SYS ( USBPORT!USBPORT_AssertSig+25 )

(Whatever THAT means...)

Thanks.

Hi,

Unfortunately we cant find the specific driver from your logs, maybe Driver Verifier may help:

Run Driver Verifier to scan for any corrupted drivers which may be causing problems, this program works by running various stress tests on drivers, in order to produce a BSOD which will locate the driver; run for least 24 hours:

First set a system restore point - :ar: Create restore point

Then enable DV - :ar: Driver Verifier

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Also issues could occur possibly because your computer is automatically
turning off the power to a USB Root Hub:

1. Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > and click on the "Device Manager" button.
2. In the Device Manager window, find the item/items labeled "Universal Serial Bus controllers."
3. Open it, and double-click the first item called "USB Root Hub."
4. In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog, click on the "Power Management" tab.
5. "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked by default. Uncheck this box, and click "OK."

Post back any progress/results

Cheers

Dave
