Hi:

I have updated one of 3 rigs (older Win7/64 DT), including KB 2859537, with no issues so far.

However, it seems some folks are experiencing serious issues with this patch.

And robinb9 mentions here seeing something at MS update forum?
(Link, please?)

Now that I do see significant issues popping up here and elsewhere, I am reluctant to install this patch, pending more info from M$.

Anyone else having problems?

Thanks!

This broke not one but two of my desktops. I have always left windows updates on, because a patch is meant to FIX an issue, not cause an issue. After this ordeal, I have disabled windows updates. DO NOT update, it has caused everything from EVERY program crashing to BSOD.

I saw it same website, do not install it, there are two other threads here, same problem, rose uninstalled it, problem went away
I am not installing it on my other machines and the one I did install it on I am going to turn it on and see if I have this problem, but I have ie9. On it. I am wondering if it has something to do with ie 10 on it. I will report back once I turn it on
But to tell you the truth I am not going to play Russian roulette and take that chance

.

>>Still running IE9 on all rigs.
I knew some Win7 folks were having problems updating to IE10 (NoelDP had mentioned some time ago that M$ would be issuing a "fixed" installer?)
Moreover, my security suite (KIS2013) also had known issues with IE 10 on Win7/64 (supposedly now patched & fixed for sure with 2014 versions being released now).
So, I was planning to upgrade to IE10 only after upgrading to KIS2014, hoping that MS would have fixed their issues with it by then.

>>Do you have the link to the MS Updates forum thread you mentioned?
(I would like to follow that topic...)

I am about to update my other 2 boxes (Win7/64/IE9 DT and Win7/32/IE9 LT), but will NOT install KB2859537 until this is sorted.

GEEZ, this is the 2nd time in the past 3-4 months that M$ has released a "bad" patch.:mad2:

I suspect you might be right -- they are probably doing their most intensive testing on Win8, and are being sloppy about Vista/7/XP.

the ms update forum is the exact link you posted here, that is where i saw it and if you look at it again (refresh the page) and i plan to post what i am about to put here, there are more with the same issue

I checked my windows 7 pro 64bit which does NOT have ie 10 (i found too many problems trying to install it on several ie 7 machines, i think it is actually made for windows 8), it did not have this problem but I uninstalled the kb anyway just in case but:

I just purchased a windows 7 pro 64 bit computer for a business client of mine. The computer is 1 week old. It is in my lab right now getting all its needed programs and updates, I plan to bring it to the client next week.
I installed 46 Windows updates on it prior to yesterdays. This Optiplex came with ie 10 installed already.
I did the updates yesterday. After looking at the posts here and on the Windows Update Forum site I decided to turn it on this morning. I had shut it down after I did the last update and reboot.
I was planning on turning it on this afternoon to work on it anyway

When I turned it on, everything was crawling along. IE 10 just sat there loading. Office 2010 sp2 took 10 minutes to load
Firefox would not load at all.
So i went and uninstalled the KB
After the reboot I prayed- mind you this is a brand new machine!!!
IE 10 now opens fine, Office opens fine and Firefox loads
And everything else seems fine

this is where i always go to check windows update issues besides here

Since the 1 box restarted fine and seems OK, I am going to wait for a while before UNinstalling 2859537. (If it ain't broke....).

Rather than hiding it, I think I will leave it set up for notifications-only for now, as well, as a reminder to check periodically for a patched version (or to see if M$ pulls it altogether, pending a fix).

What a hassle!!!

PS The other 10 updates went in fine on the other DT. About to tackle the LT.

This update is no longer automatically checked for installation, and MS have advised that they have been able to reproduce the problem with it so are presumably working on a hotfix.

Second desktop different spec but similar level.

Good policy,
If Microsoft wishes to recall the update so be it, although they can not reproduce the issues people are having,
I've got it on a 64 bit and 32 bit system without any issues,
Uninstalling an update when they all loaded at the same time can cause unexpected problems,
Now if someone had a system image to work with it would be a different remove all of them and start over keeping the problematic kb laying in waiting.
Just like to add it would not be the first time a third party security suite blocked a windows update.

Looks like there is a solution for this: Microsoft Update KB2859537 prevents PC from booting if Rootkit is present

I'm not sure if you can consider a store bought machine as "clean" depending on what you did after the purchase ?
They usually have so much pre-installed software aka: "junkware" on them.
