My Dell Studio XPS 8100 has started Freezing up Mostly during graphical work (ie Games or Video playback) sometimes I notice the internet connection will drop out first.

Sometimes it will happen while its not being used at all.

I have done a complete format & operating system reinstall. Checked all drivers (As best as I know how), Pulled all hardware out cleaned & reseated. Reapplied thermal paste between CPU & Heatsink, Cleaned out fans.

Run Memory Checks, Furmark Graphics stress test. Intel CPU Stress test & many more.

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try: Stop 124 - What it means and what to try

Ok So I Found A Driver for my on-board sound card & updated it. Since then I have had only 1 BSOD & every now and then the computer freezes & the sound goes all Matrixy but it recovers after a few seconds. Before it would either stay frozen permanently or go BSOD. I am slolly adding back all my external hardware.

Is it possible it could be due to my PSU only being 350w?

If your PSU is the original Dell it's probably OK, they tend to underrate theirs. 350W would be ample any way.
I did see in your specs you have one 2GB and one 1GB of RAM, that can be a problem. Try removing the 1GB stick and see how it goes. I would recommend getting a new 2x2GB matched kit.

Run memetst86+ for at least 8 passes.
Some hardware tests to run.

RAM (memory) test:
This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Windows memory diagnostic tool isn't very comprehensive.

Ok So I was slowly going through every piece of hardware testing, updating & disabling. I finally got to the onboard soundcard. After updating the drivers the crashes became less frequent but still often enough to render the computer unusable.

So I disabled the sound card and low & behold I haven’t had a single freeze up or crash in over two weeks. I have since hooked up and external USB soundcard & the computer is running as good as new.

I would love to know if anybody else has had this or maybe it’s just a coincidence.
Thank you all for your help.
