So I have a Dell XPS 17 laptop that is pretty much brand new (bought in June, pulled out of the box in September).

First thing I did was download Windows 7 torrent. Wipe the drives and install it with the intentions of activating it using my OEM key.

Everything installed fine all hardware was recognized, all latest drivers installed from either Dell or Nvidia website.

Problem is I get what appears to be random Event 41 BSOD's. I never see it happen, I just come back to the laptop with a BSOD screen and I have to hold the power button down to shut the system off.

Thinking I did something wrong in my isntall I went back and used a friends store bought Win 7 Home Premium disc and reinstalled the OS, drivers and everything in proper order.

Again everything looks fine - until I go to Windows Update during one of the updates the system BSOD again with the same Event 41 error.

I have included everything I can think of in hopes that someone can help me trouble shoot this problem.

Excerpt from event viewer:

Problem signature:

If there is anything else I can provide please let me know. I really need to get this figured out soon because I have a buyer for my old laptop on Monday. I'd sure hate to sell it if I can't get this thing working correctly.

Make a hard drive test from the hard drive manufacturers website

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Hard drive test both short and long with:
SeaTools for Windows

Also the DOS version of:
