BSOD - help needed - Win7 (64bit)

Can anyone help?
I keep getting Blue Screen of Death on Windows7 64bit.

Here is my hardware spec.


Motherboard: Intel DP55WB (MA TX)
Processor: Intel Core I5 750 2.66GHz
RAM: 8GB = (2GB 1066 DDR3 Memory) x4 modules
Hard disk: Seagate 500Gb, RPM: 7200, Cache:32MB, SATA (BOOT MENU: ST3500320NS - 500.1GB)

P.S. Please note that before I ran the BSOD Dump & System file colleciton app, I had recently restored my system to a point that was about a month old (at which point my Windows7 was stable)

Please also please note that my Windows Explorer and Control Panel are suddenly not working!
So I shall reboot and see what happens.
I think that I shall now also install the latest patches (being as my restore was to a point that is now about 1 month old...)

Memory corruption probably caused by a driver (7zip?). please run these two tests






Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.



Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Problem: Memtest keeps crashing - almost immediately!

I have been booting Memtest 86+ v4.20 (which I created on 25-Jan-2011) off a CD.
It cashes within about 10 seconds.
Screen goes blank and the thing reboots.

My motherboard demands memory in at least one of the DIMM0 slots.
I tried running off a memory stick in just DIMM0 - Channel A but that crashes as above.
Then I tried running off a different memory stick in just DIMM0 - Channel B but that crashes too.

So I now think it sounds like something OTHER than the memory.
Any suggestions?

P.S. I am slightly suspicious of the graphics card... which I had to replace because the last one for some reason over heated and the fan melted. However
A) My motherboard doesnt have a built-in card (and I do not have any replacement graphics card to hand) and
B) I dont think it can be a straight-forward over heating problem because the sides are off my PC at the moment and it doesnt have much TIME to over heat!
Also I am not doing any weird stuff like over-clocking the processor.

PPS. Further information:
I let the PC cool down for over 1 hour and then ran the test again. It seems to be failing in slightly different places each time it re-boots.
I think it failed as follows:
during test #2,
during test #3,
during test #1,
before test #1,
during test #1,
during test #2,
during test #2,
during test #3,
during test #2,
during test #2,
during test #2

Fwiw, the fan on the graphics card is still working, and so is the fan on the CPU.

Also about 6 months ago Memtest was cheerfully running for literally hours without a problem on the exact same computer (albeit with a different Graphics card which we eventually discovered was faulty...)

Any other thoughts?
