My computer is a self built model, and I've been having SEVERAL issues with it. So many in fact that I am lost as to how to even begin posting what's been going wrong. I've checked several forums for anyone else that has been having similar issues, but nothing has stood out as a clear fix. I seem to have a mixture of everyones problems.

There are several scenarios that my computer likes to put me through, I will list them in the order that they occur from boot up. Please note that they don't all occur in the same scenario, it depends on the day and how pissed off my computer is.

In order from earliest to latest:

1. when booted, fan of video card will spin, stop, spin, stop, spin, etc. forever, no post beep. no boot.

2. when booted, fan of video card will spin, and then will speed up to an ungodly speed that it never reaches even during the most intense gaming. still boots though and fan slows eventually once logged in.

3. computer shuts off when you press f8 to bring up screen that has the boot options (safe mode) - very strange

4. loading screen of motherboard starts that "three cores were loaded" and then boots, the three cores loaded isn't supposed to be there, I usually see something to the affect of "press 4 for ACC function".

4a. Sometimes after the green motherboard screen finishes loading, a black screen titled "American Megatrends" appears with a list of text, "pres f8 for BBS popup" "press 4 to activate acc function" "Alt-f2 to execute ez flash 2" it states what devices have been detected and then it says at the bottom "enabling unleashing mode failed" "f1 for setup" "f2 to load default and continue"

5. when prompted with "start up windows repair (recommended)", i select okay, and then the computer shuts off completely

6. when I select "start windows normally" the computer shuts off when the little windows design begins to show up.

7. in the off chance that my computer successfully boots, and I log in, and everything loads, there is a chance that the computer will blue screen. Once I restart, and everything loads it typically doesn't blue screen again ( I don't have a log of that ).

8. While playing games such as Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Rift, Modern Warfare 2, the screen will glitch with several blocky colors and then restart or BSOD.

9. While playing Rift, Video card goes ape shit and fan spins faster than with other intensive games, even when I lowered the settings.

Attached to this post is a zip file with the required files (if I made a mistake while following the BSOD posting instructions please let me know)

Thank you for your time and I hope this can be resolved.

Hi -

This old 2005 version ATK0110 can cause a lot of problems -
Code:
[FONT=lucida console]ASACPI.sys      Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 [COLOR=red]2005[/COLOR] (42476C4C)[/FONT]

See if ATK0110 update relieves BSOD epidemic.

I went to the Asus website and looked through the downloads available for my motherboard for anything resembling the "Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7). Also a part of the Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities" noted in
--> http://sysnative.com/bsod2011/jcgrif..._jcgriff2_.txt

I found "ASUS AI Suite V1.06.16 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit 7."
in the utilities. Is this what I'm looking for to install?

i found: ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit

downloaded it, there was an .exe in the 64 folder, ran it, a command prompt appeared for a split second then disappeared, nothing else occurred. Am I doing it wrong? I'll attach the folder here.

also, should i update my bios? I have been trying to figure out how to do it, asus provides a rom file and asfudos exe and gives vague instructions on how to update the bios, should i bother trying to do that?

btw, all of my specs are listed on my profile but my mobo is the M4A78T-E.

After extracting the files from zip, go to x64 folder, RIGHT-click on AsAcpiIns.exe, select "Run as Administrator".

Reboot system.

That's the one. The Created and Accessed dates sometimes change but the Modified date doesn't. Unless of course you modify it!!

It's now good to go.

The previous driver was dated 2005 -

So, if your seeing 2009 now, the driver was in fact updated (replaced).

... if the update was successful wouldn't there be a previous version?
No, you would not find previous version driver in \windows\system32\drivers

Thank you for your help guys, so far I have not had any issues with blue screens since the update, although I still need to do some tinkering with some of the utilities I downloaded while trying to fix this so I'm going to give it a few more days before I mark this thread as solved.

Thanks again!

Wouldn't you know it, an hour later and I've experienced two blue screens while playing heroes of newerth, a game I haven't really had problems with in the past. The first blue screen was a 3d and the second was 1e. Unfortunately both crash dumps froze at 90%, the second one with a really annoying noise playing on the speaker. Each time I was forced to physically restart the computer, and each time it rebooted, the video cards fan spun faster than it ever spins. The second time it rebooted, the screen went black and I haven't been able to successfully boot the computer since. When I press the power button the fans start spinning but there is no post noise and the video cards fan spins, stops, spins, stops, etc and it just keeps doing that as long as i leave it on. The last time this happened I sent in my mobo to be repaired, but could it be the video card?

when i boot the computer using the onboard mothercard it works fine, but i'm prompted with a message from AMD VISION Engine Control Center that says that "No AMD graphics driver is installed or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."

Could this be because I removed the video card? or is it refering to the onboard card which is probably out of date?
