Hi i have just had a computer build custom, and ever since i have gotten the damn thing i have nothing but problems. BSOD for everything i tried to do. When i took it back to the guys that built it, they said windows was corrupt (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit) and they re installed it. Then when i was using it after that, all seemed great, everything seemed to work. i was playing crysis, running internet, general computer apps, all seemed fine. Then all of a sudden im getting BSOD again, not as often as before though, but not good. I ran windows memory diagnostics, and it said there was a problem with the hardware, so im guessing that's ram. and the BSOD was labled Memory_Managment (and i think i saw a bad pool header at one time). The guys that build my comp tried to tell me it was my fault, and things i was installing was corrupting windows... which was a load of crap.
is there any advice you could give me?

Hi sorry for the late reply, i haven't been able to get online. I cant upload the dmp files just yet. By the way which dmp files are you talking about? theres some mini dmp files, and a huge 500mb one.
Im really confused because the windows memory diagnostics says straight away that there is a problem with the hardware, and yet for a large amount of time, i am able to use programs that use a large portion of the ram, like Crysis for instance. I also ran some BurnInTest thing on my ram, which seemed like it just tested its max capabilities, and in the end it said it had no errors doing that test. The computer though is definitely not working right. Could it maybe be the Motherboard? or does the windows mem test only test the RAM?
thanks for your reply too :)

Hello Welcome to SF,

I guess the problem is with BHDrvx64.sys Norton / Symantec. I would recommend to uninstall Norton / Symantec completely use the Norton Removal Tool and clean everything out completely. Check whether you have any BIOS updates. Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.

HardwareTroubleshooting

Run the Memory Diagnostic & HD Diagnostic

Also i would recommend to run System Integrity Checker
Start > Run > CMD >Right Click and Run as administrator > SFC/ SCANNOW

Update the following Driver

Code:
wg111v3.sys Fri Dec 28 12:29:29 2007

Bugcheck Analysis

Code:

Ok i'm in the process of running these tests, im just creating the bootable discs now. I ran the system integrity checker, which said there were no problems, and ive removed norton. I just thought id attach a log of the windows memory test in case that helps more. Apparently if there are errors found, it's supposed to tell you more about it, but it didnt come up with anything when windows rebooted, i got that log from event viewer.
Thanks so much for all your help!

ok ive ran the memtest86 with 3 passes, no errors at all. ill run it overnight to be sure. Does the windows memory test saying there is hardware issues definately mean there is a problem with the ram, or could it have been sotware, or something else? is there anything else i can do? oh i also have to update the bios still , which im kind of unsure about.
You're help has been extremely appreciated! thankyou

Hello,

Yes if you have issues with Memory then you should get errors. Once its complete then try the HD Diagnostic. If that comes clear then update your BIOS Firmware. If you still have issues post us back !!

Hope this helps,
Captain

Memory Managment is referring to your Memory. Run the MemTest86+ atleast 5 passes !! But the Minidump is still pointing to Norton. I guess still the files are hanging in there !!

there isnt a trace of norton remaining! its totally been removed! also i had another memory managment BSOD just after my last post! its crazy, it seems to work fine for the large part, but then randomly it just crashes! could this still be faulty RAM then?? i will run memtest again, at least 5 times (may aswell leave it overnight then to be sure), but im really REALLY hoping its NOT hardware! also i cant replicate the error to show the guys who built me the comp. thanks for your continued help :)

just finished 7 passes without a single error. does this rule out the possibility of faulty RAM? or even RAM module? could all of this be software related (possibly because of that stupid norton file?)

Wich version of memtest are you using ? Try the 86x+ 4.0.

It could also be memory incompatibility. I had similar issue. However at some point the memtest finded errors, thought on some test it dot find any after severals passes. From what I have read in your thread,

I would try to eliminate the possibility for memory incompatiblity. Try differents ram modules if you have acess too. I had similar issue with an Asus board not liking G-Skill ram.

I doubt this is only software related, thought it would be nice for you. But do not have too much hope as I myself have been deceived, recently... lol

I'm pretty sure there are tools out there to completely remove any norton files. Try some google research about '' removing norton'' ''northin files sweeper''. Pretty sure you can find something... :)

I'm using that version of memtest. It's just annoying that it works most of the time, but just sometimes crashes. Makes it hard to replicate when i need to take it back to the guys who built the PC (they've been trying to tell me it's my fault, that things im installing is corrupting windows, which i KNOW is not the case, it was doing it before i installed anything). I just dont want to take the computer in to them only to get turned away. Ill run the mem test again overnight, hopefully i will get some conclusive imformation. I just dont get how it could be compatible so often (i was just playing Crysis), if it just isnt compatible. I would love to find out it's software, but I don't want to get my hopes up like you said hehe. Thanks for your advice :)

My G.skill were not compatible with my ASUS and probably faulty. (unsure since sometimes memtest did not found error, but BSOD still happenneD)

However, enven thought they were not compatible,

during a period of 3 days without any BSOD, I gamed heavily, for fun but also to push my system and see if a crash occur. Nothing crashed, I played maybe 4 hours of Modern Warfare 2 and 8 hours on empire total wars in 3 days.

Nothing crashed, but after the third days all the BSOD came back and I had 3 of them a day sometimes.

So keep in mind the compatiblity issue might be your issue. That's why I suggest trying others memory set if you have acess too.

Like many experienced users on this forum told me, some Mobo are particulary picky about ram.

If Captain Jack Sparrow tell you there is something your memory and Norton antivirus files, then I think you have too look in this direction absolutely.

Let us know the results.

Yes they seem like the symtoms im having, working for a bit, then crashes a lot. Believe me i am following all the advice i have been given, and it is all very much appreciated. I was just commenting on how annoying it is when it works for a while then doesnt work, i wish it would be one or the othe . Im going to go speak to the guys that built the computer today, and tell them what you guys have told me, before i take the comp in (its hard for me to get it to them, and i dont want to get sent away).
The thing is, on the ASUS website under the compatibilty lists for my mobo, it says the ram i have is compatible, but some people say the lists arent too reliable all the time.
I even updated my bios (the patch notes said it increased compatiblity with memory), but Windows Memory Compatibility said straight away there was a problem still.
Ill keep you guys posted with what happens :) I am taking everything Capt.Jack Sparrow, Jonathan_King, and ManOwar2 have told me seriously. You have all been incredibly helpful! Thank you guys so much!

Just passing through

Did anyone suggest you run a chkdksk on the HD??

CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Let us know if you need help with any of this

Ken
