Hi All -
I recently built a new Win7-64bit machine which is suffering from somewhat random BSOD's (I have encountered 4 BSOD's in the past 11 days). I have the latest BIOS installed and I think I have updated all of my drivers updated. 3 of the 4 BSOD titles have been MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (the 4th was SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION), so I have run 2 different memory checks - both of which passed at 100%. The machine is for development, so SQL2008, VS2008, IIS along with Outlook, etc. are all running when it crashes. Finally, it mostly crashes at night (when unattended). Hopefully some of these clues help.

I have attached a zip of all 4 Mini dumps in txt form. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am afraid we need the actual DMP files. use these instructions to find and upload them. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/34900-1-novice-how-ask-help-bsod-problem.html

No problem.

These crashes were probably caused by memory. I also not that you have several drivers as listed below that are really old and should be updated.

To test your memory you should download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes.
then update the drivers
finally run a system file check to verify and repair your system files
to do that type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/")

Let us know if you need help

Ken

Thanks, for the help. How did you know those drivers needed updating? (from device mgr, Windows says they are all the latest) Is there an easy way for me to download the latest of those from the mfrs? I dont know what each of them is for, so I'm not sure where to go. Sorry if this is a noob question...

Hello,

The best way to update the driver is to Google it and find the vendor of that driver. Once you find them then go to thier website and download appropriate drvier. If you still find difficulties post us back we'll help you find it !!

Hope this helps,
Captain

Easy just look in the section that says driver below and using the scroll bar you will see that dates on the drivers. One is from 2005

wow - that was fun

OK - so I spent a day tracking down these drivers and here's what I found. Thanks in advance for your help, I was lost without this thread...

1) ASACPI.sys - Found a newer driver from ASUS that updated it to version 1043.5.0.0 dated 5/14/2009.

2) secdrv.SYS - Big religious debate over whether to keep this driver on my system, but can't find a driver newer than my current 4.3.86.0 (modified on 6/2009). Do you know of a newer one?

3) nvm62x64.sys - My system is using the nvmf6264 (note the 'f' wedged in there) version 7.03.01.07314 (not this file). However there is a later version of it in the nVidia install pkg. I reinstalled the Win7 64bit nForce package and it just doesn't get used during the install. Do I need this? If so, can I swap them out manually?

4) spldr.sys - This loaded by MS Windows - can't find a later version than 6.1.7127.0 (7/13/2009). Is there a later version out there (and why wouldn't Windows know this?)

5) nvlddmkm.sys - I have 2 versions of this on my machine - the latest version 8.17.11.9621 is installed in Win\System32\Drivers and used by the GeForce card. There are 2 other older versions in the Win\winsxs\ and Win\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository directories. Do I need to remove/replace these?

6) amdxata.sys - I can't find anything on my system using this driver, nor can I find a version later than 1.1.2.4 (modified on 7/2009) from Googling. Where would I see a device using a "Storage Filter Driver"? Do you know of a later version?

Thx,
Tony

The BSOD's only happen every couple of days, so I'll have to wait and see.

Can you respond to the questions #2-6? Should I swap out those files? Are there newer versions that I couldn't find?

Thx,
Tony
