Hey,

I've had this Dell XPS 15 (L502x) laptop with custom swapped SSD for almost 2 years now, and lately I've been getting BSODs, at start they were mostly kernel inpage error, now it doesnt even give a specific error and fails to do a minidump. I reinstalled windows, but still happens, usually while running something memory demanding, like playing a game or running a large postgres database.

Hardware specifics:

Disk Drives KINGSTON SV100S2256G Kingston SNA-DC/U USB Device
Display Adapters Intel(R) HD Graphics Family 3861.0859375MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 2048MB

Since the minidump failed, at least made a screenshot of the last one:

Appreciate any help, thank you

I've sat back and enjoyed the posts on this forum for years, but for once, I thought I'd contribute as I've been fighting this Kernel data inpage BSOD for several days now.

I've rebuilt Win7 Prof x64 about 8 or 9 times now rearranging various bios settings (raid vs ahci, intel vs marvell storage controller, etc) and learned a lot. I got this BSOD on most builds, but it was always after a few updates and reboots and I could put my finger on it until I read http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/195182-bsod-kernel-data-page-error.html.

I got really lucky with this last build (finished yesterday) on a 60GB SSD with a GTX 570. The when I installed the NVidia driver, I skipped the audio driver for the hdmi and held off on all the windows "optional" updates. I decided to finalize this build as it seemed stable, so I reinstalled the NVidia driver, but ONLY checked the NVIDIA AUDIO DRIVER. 20 minutes later, boom bsod.

I'm not saying that's it, but it's a very good candidate as every other forum with this bsod has an opener with an NVidia GPU. I think I'm going to go reinstall my graphics driver without the NVidia audio...

Solved

Didnt find any firmware update for my model of the SSD (only for the smaller ones). Here is the folder:

Well that sux for you, cuz that fixed my BSOD. Booted in safe mode and it still BSOD'd, so that narrowed it down to the psu (doubtful), the storage controller (maybe), and the ssd (likely). I read some posts about a firmware update and power cycling the ssd (connect the power, but not the comms and let it run for half an hour).

After upgrading the firmware on my crucial m4 ssd, I've had this system up for 24 hours with no freezing or bsod. Crucial.com Product Downloads - Firmware Updates

Not surprising considering I went from "0009" to "070H" (update 5 days ago). I used the exe that you just run from win7. All it does is make a new MBR on the root of the drive in which it was run, which only works once (so if it fails, your back in windows). Oh, and I had to switch from RAID to AHCI (and fix those 2 registry keys for switching) for the exe to detect the drive (duh). Hopefully this will help future googlers ;)
