Solved BSOD, intermittent over past year, worse recently when gaming

Been having problem on/off for a while, but has been getting worse recently. Can't pinpoint a common trend; can happen while idling or while playing games.

I have a pc from chillblast, that I think was overclocked at the factory - I've read this can cause problems but since I didn't do it myself, I'm unsure how to undo it.

0x124's are typically related to a hardware issue and can only be isolated by stress testing the major components.

If overclocking, reset all overclocks back to their default settings in the BIOS and then follow these:

RAM - run for a minimum of 8 consecutive passes

If you are not running a RAID setup, uninstall Intel Rapid Storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. This one ....

Start Menu\Programs\Intel® Matrix Storage Manager

Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

1. Right click on "My Computer" icon and click "Manage" on the context menu.
2. It will open the "Computer Management" window.
3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
7. Now restart the computer. At restart, Windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

Hi Boozad,

So.... Loaded up bios, 'turbo ratio' was at 45 (* by 100 base to give 4.5GHz, OC'd from 3.3GHz), I set it to 40... to bring it down a bit

Ran prime95 with cupid hardware and realtemp running - both give temperatures of 98C on all four cores, is this high? Real temp seems to suggest this is only a degree or two below max safe level?

I bought this pc pre-made and iirc it had some fancy (better than stock) cooling fitted (maybe even water cooled)... How can I check that cooling is running correctly?

Sorry if this is ot, feel free to direct me elsewhere if I'm in the wrong place

98°C is way too high for your CPU, can you give us the temperatures when idle please. And to eliminate the overclock as being the issue you need to remove it altogether and test the system.

Okay then... so had a look inside, cpu cooler and fan were filthy, removed and cleaned fan/radiator, then removed and applied new thermal paste. Now idles at 45C and now sitting at 72C after ten minutes at 100% load (using prime95), with a peak at 85C a few mins in.

Going to mark this one solved, might even try turning the OC back up...
