Hi,

I've been having this BSOD for a very long time and I am trying to solve it.

Details about the system are in the attached document, but I would like to mention a few things that might help:
1) I am having the problem with OS installed on a SSD but I was having these problems before, with OS installed on a HDD;
2) I can't figure out a pattern for when the BSOD happens, sometimes it is while starting Windows, sometimes it's when watching youtube or working, sometimes it's when I am away from my PC;
3) The dump files are not generated: I've tried Small Memory Dump and Kernel Memory Dump but such files are never created;
4) There are days when I don't get the BSOD at all and other days that it happens 3-4 times;
5) These problems have been happening ever since I bought the PC (custom PC with components assembled by the shop), after I installed the OS, drivers and softwares, so I can't say it was after a new installation of a specific thing;
6) I've taken 3 pictures of the BSOD that happened today (I can upload them if needed). Today's BSOD do not mention any .sys files, but I remember that, sometime in the past, I noticed ntfs.sys and other .sys files mentioned in the BSOD. If I remember correctly, when I googled the .sys files I saw in the past, some were about Daemon Tools Lite. I did uninstall the software but I kept getting BSOD.

Thank you!

Hi radu1984,

Welcome to the 7forums.

I see you still have Daemon tools installed, even though you say you have removed it.
Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

34700d1440923396-bsod-0x124-whea_uncorrectable_error-nothing-works-a887c9d9e7.png

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

For the dump problem.

Please make sure Ccleaner is not deleting dump files
If you are using a program like Ccleaner please stop using it while troubleshooting.
This because programs like Ccleaner remove dump files that are needed to troubleshoot.

Or configure Ccleaner to not remove dump files:

Please try the following:
  • Open an admin command prompt
  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Please test your RAM for 1 of the crashes.

Diagnostic Test

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

For NTFS.sys as you say had come up, please try following

Diagnostics Test

 HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html

   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Hi and thanks for the message!

Here is what I did so far:

1) Uninstalled Daemon Tools and installed SPTD (what exactly is this for, I couldn't find a clear explanation for this). Now that I have uninstalled Daemon Tools, what software should I use as a replacement?

2) When I first ran "sfc/scannow", it gave an error that it found a problem but is unable to fix it. Once I restarted and ran the command again, I got "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation". Attached is the log file generated.

3) I ran SeaTools for my HDD (that is not the system drive) and turned out to be fine. I also ran it for the system SSD just to see what happens. :)

4) Ran a chkdsk and it was fine.

5) I ran MemTest86+ with both 4 GB sticks in the slots. Gave an error pretty fast. I removed one (stick 2) of the sticks and let the other one in (stick 1). After 8 passes, everything was in order, so I added stick 2 back in and ran it again. Gave an error after 3 minutes and then a whole bunch after another few seconds. So I figured it's either stick 2 or slot 2.

I then removed stick 2 from slot 2, moved stick 1 to slot 2 and ran the test again. Only left it running for 5 minutes due to limited time and didn't show any errors. I then removed stick 1 from slot 2 and added stick 2 to slot1 and to slot 2. It gave errors after a few minutes in both slots.

I then removed stick 2 and added stick 1 to slot 1 and opened Windows.

I am now running on 4GB of RAM.

So, after a few tests, there appears to be a problem with stick 2 because it gives errors in both slots. Stick 1 was fine after 8 passes in slot 1 and I still need to leave it overnight in slot 2 to see how that goes.

I will probably continue with 4GB for a while (switching from one slot to another) and see if I continue to get BSOD. If everything will be ok, I will have to go buy a new stick.

Thanks for your help, I will update the thread with results from stick 1 in slot 2 MemTest.

FYI, the only corrupted file was mfc90u.dll file from Microsoft.VC90.MFC which is a part of the Visual C++ Libraries Side by Side (SxS) Assemblies.

Keep us posted :)

Is there anything else I need to do about that?

No, as you say 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation'.

The source from where sfc replaces corrupted files, adds missing files or fixes other problems is not corrupted.
With a reboot and another sfc the corruption has been solved.

Ok, thanks!

Can you answer 1) ?

No problem,
Daemon tools let Windows think there is a cd added to install / run software with the .iso.
You can try to extract the .iso and run the right executable from the extracted folder without any software.

It is pretty much the same, except you don't let Windows think there is a disk added.
I have done this a lot of times.

Update:

I tested stick 1 of Ram in slot 2 and didn't get any errors after 10 passes.

So the conclusion regarding the RAMs is that stick 2 has errors.

I've been running Windows for the past few days only with stick 1 of RAM installed and I am yet to get any BSOD.

I'll come back with an update after several more days or as soon as I get another BSOD (if it happens).

Thank you, again!

Update: I didn't get any BSODs since I removed the corrupted stick of RAM 2 weeks ago.

So I am pretty sure that was the problem.

Thanks again for you help!
