Hi everyone,

I've had a recurring BSOD issue after moving house. It seems to be intermittent. Sometimes at startup, sometimes a bit later. I've tried correcting any driver issues, but the problem still occurs.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,
Ian

Hi ICIT2LOL,

I've updated my system specs (neat file by the way)

I've investigated my windows folder and I have no BSOD memory dump files, despite being configured to make one. I remember on the BSOD it says something like memory dump failed.

If it goes again I'll see if one is created.

Thanks,
Ian

Hi again,

1. SFC scan now result - Verification 100% complete
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
Details are included in the CBS log (attached)

2. chkdsk on boot (c: f/ r/) - check disk didn't actually run, just reported "this volume is clean"

Hopefully the CBS log brings something up.

Thanks,
Ian

Ok Ian have looked through a lot of stuff and the cbs logs are really way beyond me unless it is some very obvious. Took another look at the other stuff you sent and still cannot pin anything down. It is a shame that the BSOD didn't leave a file behind because I am sure we could have got something out of that as they are more specific than some of the other stuff.

The only things I can pick out now are some problem devices in msinfo32 which I am going to try and track down as they are not anything obvious to me - see pic

Now also you mentioned moving house and it has got me wondering whether the problem is something more simple than what one is "looking" for so I might suggest that you open the case and clean it out thoroughly re seat all the cables, sticks, and cards etc

You could go really pedantic and try my little ditty

SLOT CLEANING

Now as for the slots to clean them use a strip of old credit card about1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them off hold a piece of thin lint free cloth over the end dab on some form ofalcohol - isopropyl alcohol (if you want to be pedantic) but any ethanol basedalcohol even methylated spirits (called rubbing alcohol in the US) are good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s and also the contacts of thesticks or cards - not the stick but some lint free cloth of course. See my picfor the sick but please be very gentle doing it if you are in any doubt -please ask before doing it but I use this all the time and have yet to damageanything. Plus make sure the card/sticks contacts are clean too but begentle

Might be an idea to run Speccy to check out the temps too https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download a snip / pic would be good to see

Ian I have just chased down that problem device and it is linked to something called Colasoft Packet Capture Engine. Can I assume that you have some sort of software or a device that uses it on the machine?

I am not saying this is the root cause of the issues just it may be.

John

Hi John,

I updated some DVD drivers and I think that may have solved the issue.
No BSOD recently (last 5 or 6 boots)

Let me see if I can uninstall that Colasoft Thing. It is to do with network tracking or something. I never use it.

Thanks for your help bud,
Ian

No worries and yes that software is for networking but like you say if you don't need it then dump it;) - never a great fan of the software that comes like that.

Had another BSOD this morning, but this time the windows 'recovered from error' prompt appeared to tell me I had a minidump created (attached).

However I can't decipher it. Can you help?

I've saved it as a .txt as I can't upload .dmp to the forum.

Thanks,
Ian

Ok Ian pity the dumps will not load as they would be the stuff we need and the files you have sent might as well be in Klingon.
Having said that in the bottom row of files? there are some refs to temps and power issues what I don't know. In the pic I have outlined just one lot.
So can you please run Speccy https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download and post back the temps please.'

Also when these problems are occurring are there any beeps from the machine?? it can be anything from a long drawn out beep or a set of short ones but whatever if they are present they usually are an alarm for an issue and usually some component going critical.

Can you again see these tutorials and try again with the dump files

Ok Ian mate the files themselves would have been handy but in any case the csrss.exe came up that time and again it can be a cause or a furphy.

The temps are indeed warm for the CPU but not critical if they were going on say 70C and above I would say yes redo the compound etc By the by is it a stock cooler on that device?

Can you run this for starters as I think we are going to have to check just about everything and this is where I like to start.

Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right handwindow select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will seewhat the volts are doing see my pic. Now the section you want will be labeled -for example Asus boards usually have "Nuvoton" and Gigabyte boards"ITE" in any case the section you want will have Vbatt or VBAT in it(dead give away)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for thatbut for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main lefthand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in andthen click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in theright hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds andother essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
