I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z565 for about a year, and just a few months ago, it has started to blue screen. It stopped after I prevented it from overheating, but it came back after I installed The Sims 3. I have System Restored back to before I installed it and it is still blue screening. I have attached the Seven Forums file. Please help! :geek:

Hello Spetsnax and welcome to Sevenforums!

Things we need

  • A nfo file
    • To get this: Start Menu -> Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box -> When it opens, go to File, Save -> Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember -> Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info -> Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder -> Upload the .zip file here.

BSOD Analyse

Looking at your bugcheck it's likely that a memory corruption event was triggered. Though a driver could be causing the memory to be borked, but we're usually suggesting a memory test before moving forward. Do a scan with Memtest86+. Memtest is a scanner that'll check your sticks for errors.

   Warning
:info: Note that the below instructions may break your WARRANTY rules. If you're unsure check manuals, separated warranty papers, stickers on computer for secure permission.

To ensure that we'll know if it's the slots on the motherboard that's broken, or the sticks itself - we have a little procedure we'll recommend. Remove 1 stick, scan the other with Memtest in the current slot. After 7 passes, move the stick to another slot and scan, and so on and so forth until you've scanned all the sticks, and all the slots, one by one.

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)

One problem, I can't open the computer up because I am not good at that type of stuff and I'm not allowed. Oh here is the file you asked for.

Sorry for the late responds, sometimes threads are missed in my subbox when analysing hundreds of them. :)

Glad you were aware that you wouldn't be able to open the case. I wasn't aware of the fact that you had a laptop before looking in your NFO. Just run the Memtest86+, without opening or messing with anything. You're allowed to.

Best Regards,

Frederik.

I downloaded it and there was a java file named memtest.bin and when I clicked on it it launched command prompt then closed. Do you know what download would be right?

You basically need to copy all the files that the download gives you, to your USB drive or whatever drive you want to boot from. The .bin file is launched when you boot the drive, and not something to be launched within Windows 7.
As far as I'm concerned there should be some kind of wizard guiding you through.

Frederik.

Is there anything else like memtest that doesn't require usb drive? I don't have one.

This may sound odd but it is true. I took the laptop down to my aunt's beach house so me and my brother could play Minecraft down there. There were no blue screens the whole trip. Then when I got back, no blue screens. So the solution for 124 errors is: GET YOUR COMPUTER OUT OF THE HOUSE xD. Thanks for the help though.

It might have fixed somehow. Congratulations. :D

Do a scan with Prime! Make sure to monitor CPU temperatures.

Worker 2 failed on Test 2. One thing that caught my eye was FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.453125, expected less than 0.4. It also said I had a hardware error.

I unfortunately did not monitor it (I have no program and it failed in the first few minutes.) but the laptop felt nice and cool. Worker 1 just passed it's first test with 10 little tests that succeeded.

But the fact that the second test showed errors is noticeable. Are you able to get in contact with your computer manufacturer?

I reran the test on worker 2 and the temps on SpeedFan were 96 for Temp 2 and Core was 98 degrees. I do not think I could get into contact with Lenovo right now. The CPU usage was at 100% while I ran Prime 95 and SpeedFan. After I saw CPU usage a blue screen occured.

That's a waaay too much heat. That's why your computer crashed I believed. When you can, call or send an email to Lenovo and explain your situation. It's pretty much on their shoulders as I believe it's hardware related.

Frederik.

I talked to Lenovo and they left me with three options

A: pay $80 and have the computer shipped out for 10 days

B: clear the hard drive and have factory defaults

C: do nothing (chosen option)

Thanks for your help Frederik. I have found a way to stop them by running only a few programs at a time.
