Hi - I keep getting the dreaded BSOD multiple times a day. There is no one particular thing I am doing at the time it happens - so I havent seen any pattern (not that there isnt one I havent noticed!). Thanks in advance for any help you might have for me!

Hello and welcome to SF carrieaj :).

0x9F which is DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE that happens in
transitions between power states most commonly S0 (ON state) > S3 (Sleep state)
or vice-verse. You can read more HERE.

The most common cause is a device driver but sometimes it's the hardware itself
that is at fault.

The bugchecks appears to be caused by the Ethernet adapter when it is trying to power down.
Code:
BugCheck 9F, {3, fffffa8007abaa10, fffff80000b9c518, [COLOR=Blue][U]fffffa800e480010[/U][/COLOR]}

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: X64_0x9F_3_POWER_DOWN_[COLOR=Red][U]netr28x[/U][/COLOR]_IMAGE_pci.sys

The thing that is puzzling me a little bit is the driver date,
Code:
lmvm netr28x
Browse full module list
start end module name
fffff880`04cdf000 fffff880`04f36000 netr28x T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: netr28x.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\netr28x.sys
    Image name: netr28x.sys
Browse all global symbols functions data
    Timestamp: [COLOR=Red][U]Fri Feb 22 11:10:29 2013[/U][/COLOR]
The latest I found offered both on LinkSys and MediaTek's website are dated 2012,
where did you get yours from?

Please follow both of these tutorials and select to turn off the power management:

:ar: Please remove iaStor:
Code:
lmvm iaStor
Browse full module list
start end module name
fffff880`010e2000 fffff880`012ea000 iaStor T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: iaStor.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\iaStor.sys
    Image name: iaStor.sys
Browse all global symbols functions data

Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

:ar: Please remove GFI Sunbelt Software Firewall:
Code:
lmvm SBFWIM
Browse full module list
start end module name
fffff880`04c59000 fffff880`04c7a000 SBFWIM T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: SBFWIM.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\SBFWIM.sys
    Image name: SBFWIM.sys
Browse all global symbols functions data

Post back with the results.

Thanks YoYo155!

Not sure where the driver came from - not even sure what it is for (I realize this shows how ignorant I am about my computer). Can you tell me a bit more about what this driver is or where people typically get it from? I can try to give you a better answer from there.

I attempted to complete all the steps you laid out. The PCI Express Link State Power Management was already off, so nothing to do there. I uninstalled the intel rapid stoarge via the control panel, but "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" was not listed under Device Manager. As for the GFI Sunbelt Software Firewall, I uninstalled AdAware since that is what it seemed to be attached to. Everything else went as planned :-)

I will report back in a few days, or when I get another BSOD - whichever comes first! Thanks again for the help.

Nothing yet - which is a good thing! I have been up and running since I made the changes you recommended. But I havent really used the computer for anything heavy duty either... so I was afraid to claim victory yet - haha :D
