BSOD - need help fixing

The last few months I have been getting BSOD every once in a while. Last week, it occurred 4 times in one day. Would like help resolving this.

A vide TDR error means your graphics drivers crashed and did not recover in time. These are your current graphics drivers

Please update your drivers. This is a suggestion

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/329659-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall you current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is the Display Driver.

Also, in the first box on your dump file please look at the last line

IDSvia64 is Norton Internet security which is a well know cause of BSODs. I recommend you uninstall it, use the Norton Removal tool (https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us) and install Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows)

Let us know if your results are better after doing that.

I can't find the drivers to uninstall.
Where do I go in the control panel to find the drivers I need to uninstall?
I've looked in Uninstall programs and all I find is Realtek audio that has drivers.
I've searched the control panel for atikmdag and nothing comes up.
I've searched for drivers and I get C:\Program Files (x86)\Realtek\Audio
I've searched for \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys and nothing comes up


I'm stuck.

I've already downloaded the WHQL driver.

Do you see, in control panel, uninstall a program, Catalyst Control Center (CCC) ? that is what to uninstall. Then run thee DDU and select only ATI Display Drivers. reboot and install the new drivers as described above.

There is no CCC in my Control Panel.

Do you actually have a physical card or is it on chip graphics? IF, you have a physical card, go to device manager, expand display adaptors, right click the HD 4200, select properties, go to the driver tab and select uninstall. Reboot, run DDU as in the tutorial and shit down, install the GT8800, start up and install the driver, using custom install and deselect everything except the Graphics driver and the PhysX Driver.

I ran DDU. The computer restarted.

Somehow, I missed getting the computer in safe mode. However, everything on the screen was magnified. After it shut down and restarted, it looks normal again.
Next is ... install the GT8800 ... How do I do it? I have no idea where to find GT8800.

cfarlow, I am sorry. I got your thread mixed up with another thread. Just reinstall Your drivers. Select custom install when you have the options and install only the graphics driver. You should be able to uncheck those thing you don't want to install.

I"m a little confused here. I followed your initial instructions to download the WHQL driver before I ran the DDU. Now I can't find it.

I have the auto detect utility download. However, when I went to run it again to find the WHQL driver, it looked like it was downloading all kinds of stuff for games and applications that I don't use. I stopped it.

Then I clicked on the driver link in the last message you sent me and got a drivers download page. Is that what I should be doing now, or did I miss something here?

cfarlow, please read post # 8. I said I had your thread confused with another thread, so there is no GT 8800. You should just reinstall your drivers. But, do not use the auto detect and install. Just download the driver and only install the graphics driver. Not CCC and all of that, you don't need it and it can cause problems. Select custom install when you are installing, and select what you want to install.
