Hello,

This is my first post so not sure what the protocol is, but here goes...

I've been getting sporadic BSODs and crashes sometimes caused when opening up a YouTube video or just when messing around on the computer. The BSOD message is the ever-so-popular "nvlddmkm.sys" error message and the minidump file says its caused by "dxgkrnl.sys" (see attached minidump file). I've been led to believe the cause is my video card - EVGA NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 470SC.

I've ran memtest overnight multiple times and found no errors, uninstalled/reinstalled NVIDIA drivers using DriverSweeper, disabled NVIDIA HD Audio (suggested error from a few forums), and even got an RMA for my video card. The error still happens! It happens less frequently now with the RMA-ed card though. I've also swapped in an NVIDIA GTX 560TI and there were no problems.

I'd really appreciate any advice/insight. I spent $1500 building this rig and am on the verge of tossing it out the window. Help!

Hello,

Besides your card not getting fully fixed (most likely possibility IMO), the only thing I can think of is a power issue. The 470 uses a bit more power than the 560, though your PSU still more than meets the requirement for both. Still, it's worth mentioning. If you could possibly try a higher wattage PSU out, you could say with a fair amount of confidence that you simply need a new card. That might give you more leverage with EVGA support.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I will try out a higher wattage PSU and keep you updated. In the meantime, here are some more diagnostic files that I forgot to include. Maybe this will point to a separate issue.

Besides the nVidia 0x116 BSODs, I'm also seeing some from AppleCharger.sys, the Gigabyte device charger driver. Try removing the program in Programs and Features, and see if BSOD frequency decreases any.
