BSOD on Cold boot new notebook

Hello,

2 days ago I received my new ASUS K52JK-SX019V notebook. On the very first startup I got a BSOD, however after restarting the notebook it booted normally and worked perfectly all night.
The following day I had another BSOD on first startup. And again the problem vanished with restarting the notebook and it worked good.
Same pattern that evening. This leads me to conclude that I get an BSOD on Cold Boot because I never got a BSOD or any other error after the first startup.

I have warranty of course so I can send the notebook back but this is my only computer and if it needs to be repaired I will be without computer for some time.
Being a student this will become an issue so it would be amazing if the experts here can give some insight in what the problem is.

Specifications:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
OEM version, pre installed on notebook
Like I said, I just got the notebook 2 days ago. BSOD on very first bootup, no software installed before the first BSOD or anything.
ASUS K52JK-SX019V
Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHZ
RAM: 4,00 GB (3.86 GB usable)
HDD: 500 GB
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5145 1 GB

Hi, Dutch, and welcome to the forum. I am sorry your are having problems with your new computer. The dump does not give a specific cause; so you will have to troubleshoot.
Error code 7F, UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack.

While you are troubleshooting, I suggest that you uninstall Eset NOD32 antivirus. Eset is known to cause BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. After you get your system stable, you can try Eset again; but I really don't recommend doing so. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in place of Eset.

I find two out of date drivers loaded on your system. Outdated drivers can and do cause conflicts, memory corruption and crashes with Win 7. The driver in red font is really outdated. Update these drivers.

Uninstall Eset, update these two drivers and run your system. If you get another BSOD, upload the dump and we will go from there. At that point, you can enable Driver Verifier following the instructions in this tutorial:

Thanks for your quick reply Carl. I uninstalled ESET and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

I tried to update the drivers but in my Device Manager I am seeing different drivers than the ones that you posted. I have attached a screenshot. The names are different and they aren't really outdated I think.

I did try and update them, by clicking on "Update Driver" in Device Manager and by going to the websites and downloading the ones for my notebook. Both ways I get a message that the drivers are currently up to date.

Isn't it strange that you get "ATK0101" and I see "ATK0100" in Device Manager. The same for the webcam driver, completely different name.

I am going to bed now, it is getting late here in The Netherlands and I have to get up early. I will see if my notebooks still gives the BSOD on cold boot tomorrow evening and post the dump again.

Generally speaking, we do not recommend updating drivers through device manager unless there is no other recourse. We recommend downloading the driver or driver package from the manufacturers' websites and then installing them. Sometimes the driver package will include an .exe file. You click on that and it installs the driver. If there is no .exe file, you then go to Device Manager > find the device > right click and select Properties > click on the Update Driver button > Select Browse my computer for driver software and point it to the folder containing your downloaded drivers.

A third party driver (non MS driver) dated prior to July 13, 2009 is outdated for Win 7 - with some exceptions. The exceptions are that some late Vista drivers will work with Win 7. Some will not. You can consider 13 July 2009 as the "magic" date.

Regarding the webcam driver, sncduvc.SYS Mon Dec 29 04:14:26 2008 is definitely loading on your system and it is obsolete. Using Windows Explorer, you can navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, find this driver and rename it from .sys to .bak, reboot, and the driver will not load. However, this will probably break your webcam. If your webcam no longer works, you will know it is dependent upon this driver. I briefly researched it and I could not find an update for this driver. If your camera no longer works and you cannot find an update for that specific driver, you need to uninstall the webcam and upgrade to one compatible with Win 7. If your camera still works after renaming that file, you have gotten rid of an obsolete driver.

Alright, when I get home I will rename the driver and try again. This is a built-in webcam though so I can't really upgrade it. If it stops working I can get a driver from the Asus website right? I'll also give another shot at upgrading the other outdated driver. And after that should I try the Driver Verifier you posted?

Hello Carl,

I got home and of course got another BSOD. This got me pretty pissed off because I already spent 2 evenings trying to figure out the problem to a brand new notebook. So I called the webshop from which I bought it. They first told me to contact Asus and use their repair service. The notebook could be gone for 4 weeks! At this point I got kinda angry which seemed to work. They will be picking up the notebook tomorrow and I ordered a new one. It should arrive in a few days and hopefully will be without any faults.

Thanks so much for your time and effort but it seemed foolish to me to waste my and your time trying to figure out a problem on a 2 day old notebook. A few years ago I wouldn't have mind spending hours getting to the bottom of the problem but now a days I just don't have the time anymore.
