Hi. Hope you can help. Have a new PC purchased without OS installed (spec is in my profile). I have installed Windows 7 Pro and official drivers supplied with PC for M/B, Graphics card, Avermedia TV Card etc. All works fine except when system placed in sleep mode. Invariably get BSOD on wake-up. Have attached file generated by DM Log Collector.

Have checked System Log and see these three entries which may be relevant to latest BSOD which is tied to dump file 010715-17050-01.dmp:

Critical Event at 20:41:35 on 07/01/2014: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Error event at 20:41:45 on 07/01/2014: The previous system shutdown at 19:58:43 on ‎07/‎01/‎2015 was unexpected.

Error event at 19:29:55 on 07/01/2014: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
UsbCharger

Many thanks

You cannot blame this computer, with 29 startup items.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Now follow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/778-power-plan-settings-change.html ... go to step 5.B and dont let your SSD to go to sleep.

Let us know how it runs.

Thanks for response. Have deselected all start up items (there was no entry for Norton 360 so assume starts some other way). In Power Options set "Turn off hard disk after" to Never. Put machine to sleep - still BSOD on resume.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've traced the problem to the Avermedia TVT5 M779 DVB-T Tuner card I transferred from previous PC. It ran OK in that machine (a Dell 9200 with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit) but is definitely causing the BSOD on wake-up after sleep in new PC. (If I remove card, PC sleeps/wakes w/o errors). I used some Vista 64-bit drivers that I found in a post on VistaForums which others claimed work with Windows 7 64-bit. Functionally, they work fine but they must have bug relating to sleep mode.

Well done.

Some old drivers cannot readily adjust with sleep mode. You may set that device to a never sleep state.

Otherwise, as the computer is a desktop one, you may disable sleep completely. A desktop will not loss anything without sleep, as it runs on external power source.
