Put this computer together myself about 6 months ago; had no issues until yesterday when I left the computer running all day; when I shut it down at night, it BSOD, and did it repeatedly when I tried to shut it down. Driving me crazy, I was going to do a system restore to see if it stops, but figured you guys know best. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The installation appears to be counterfeit?
The motherboard appears to be a retail one, while the Product Key is for an OEM-installed machine.

That is interesting; I purchased some of the parts of this pc from a buddy of mine, and he had sold the HDD to me with 7 on it...

Also, I re-installed MS security Essentials last night, seems to have fixed the problem. I had uninstalled it not long after I got the computer running after building it; it was causing a conflict with some games I had installed.

ANY Windows license resides on the motherboard, and not the Hard Drive - the distinction arises from the type of license as to whether it's valid on any given motherboard.

There have been at least three different motherboards in this computer; I bought most of the guts from a friend of mine, and he had bought it from someone who had ordered his parts off of newegg. So, to be completely honest, I don't know what the original configuration of the computer was, all I knew was that I was buying used parts. I believe the guy I bought it from also had a linux partition and was using this as a server; all I know was he messed around with that type of thing, and for all I know the copy of windows 7 I was provided with may not be legitimate.
He helped me troubleshoot a sound issue with the motherboard, which is why it now has a sound card; we tried replacing the motherboard, but the other cards I had didn't fit well together on that board.

The facts remain the same - the license resides with the original motherboard on which it was installed.
If it happens to have slipped through the system for a while, it doesn't change anything.
