Hello folks!

I've been having some graphical glitches with my cursor and random freezes for about a week now. Graphical glitches include low resolution cursor - coupled with low color depth, and the cursor not clicking where it is graphically represented on the screen. Another issue with the cursor is unresponsive clicks.

The freezes are at quite regular intervals and doesn't seem to be triggered by high cpu or memory usage.

Yesterday it also began failing to shut down properly, being stuck on the logoff screen for a long while, eventually resulting in a 0x9f BSOD.

I believe it might be gpu-related, possibly a NVIDIA driver issue, but to be honest I don't have the know-how to identify and deal with the situation safely and accurately. Any help is greatly appreciated! System specs are in my profile info, if it's necessary.

Hi blondus,

Welcome to the 7forums.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

This seems to have done the trick! Though I am a bit baffled as to why.

You have my eternal gratitude axe0, thank you so much!

The SCSI Pass Through Direct driver is not properly coded and thus very unstable.
Daemon tools and the other programs I mentioned uses this driver which makes the software unstable.
A quote from Wikipedia about this driver
It is known to be incompatible with kernel-mode debugging including WinDbg and Microsoft's other command line debuggers as well as SoftICE. Further, certain versions of the freeware optical media burning software ImgBurn will issue a warning, "SPTD can have a detrimental effect on drive performance", if the application detects that SPTD is active or installed.

You're welcome :)
Glad I could help.
