Ok so I just finished installing Windows 7 and I am getting a BSOD when I try to either shutdown, restart or sleep the computer. Now I know how frustrating it is to troubleshoot someone who doesn't give enough information so I'm going to try to be as detailed as possible.

This is the second time I have tried working with windows 7 and in both cases I have been getting the same thing; BSOD on shutdown, etc. I have tried a few things some worked and some didn't.

1. I updated my BIOS to the latest one that HP has for my model of PC.
---> This didn't change anything... starts up a bit faster but it still BlueScreen's

2. I tried booting up in safe mode and then shutting down.
---> This worked. I was able to shutdown perfectly, no BSOD; everything went fine. It is for this reason I'm going to guess that this is a driver related issue.... hmmm

3. I unplugged all the extra crap I have plugged in to the back of my PC (wireless mouse, usb hub, etc..)
---> This made no change. When I started up in regular boot mode and then tried to shutdown, same thing... hangs on the "Shutting Down..." page for like 30 minutes then just BlueScreens.

Those are the things I've tried SO Far.... I wanted to get a picture/information on what the actual BlueScreen error is but I actually lost the paper... and sitting around waiting 30 mins for it to bluescreen is a long time... but if it must be done to fix this then so be it... I will literally do anything to get this to work :p

So now I know that you are going to ask me for some specs of my system. WAY ahead of you. Here are the most detailed specs of my system I could get:

Ok so I'm thinking that that should be enough for you to get a general idea of the problem. I apologize in advance if this problem has already been solved and if so, please direct me to the solution and I will be more than grateful.

Thank You Very Much :)

EDIT: Just found out how to get the minidump... I rar-ed that up and attached it. Thanks again :)

EDIT2: I just found a program to analyze the dump files and this is the "Bug Check String" it reports each and every time:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

EDIT3: Ok so apparently the error is being caused by this file: ntkrnlpa.exe
---> The program tells me that it is NT Kernel & System which I'm assuming is something important :p

The dumps seem to point to xcbdaV.sys - a component of the ViXS XCode Windows AVStream Minidriver ( ViXS )

Also, please remove these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:
How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers. Please pay particular attention to any dated 2007 or earlier:

Wow dude thanks :)
I actually just figured that out yesterday... I was doing research all over the net and found out that tv tuner cards are likely causes for Windows 7... so I unscrewed my case and yoinxed out the card. It installed like a charm! No bluescreen nothing :)

Out of curiosity though, how did you find out it was pointing to that driver... I would like to know for future reference :D

Thanks for your time man

What do you mean you yoinxed out the card and it installed like a charm! No bluescreen nothing.? I'm having the same problem with the same tv tuner card (outdated driver)on my not shutting down then bluescreen problem. Can't find the damn update any where right now. Did you take it out totally and didn't reinstall it? Or took it out restarted ,shutdown and reinstalled it and the drivers were installed? I don't use it but if that's the only thing that's gonna stop my shutdown problems right now I'd be down with that!! Kinda of funny tho I didn't have this problem with upgrade to Win 7 from Vista instead of now clean install, UMMM!! Your input would be greatly appreciated!
Much Mahalo,
