Hello all, this is my first time posting. I receive a BSOD upon startup, once I reach windows login screen. After a couple of seconds, input will lock up. Usually, this is followed after a few moments by a BSOD, though occasionally, input is reallowed, and computer functions normally. This continues until windows tries to install updates. When signing off to reboot, configurations reach 30%, and computer attempts reboot. At this time, before reaching the sign on screen, I get what I can best describe as a bunch of staggered blue and light blue lines across my entire monitor, which requires me to hard boot my computer. To restore functionality, I have to go into safe mode, where I'm informed 'failure configuring windows updates' and my computer automatically reverts the updates. Afterwards, I can boot normally, and I'm back up to the login (which occasionally allows me to proceed.)
I've updated several drivers, uninstalled recently installed programs, and have backed up all files I care to keep. I've tried to do a bit of research, but I'm not getting very far, and this has been going on for several days. My most recent BSOD info is posted below... please help before my computer bites the dust for good!

BSOD during login screen, also windows updates fail

Hello all, I've had my computer for about three years. I receive a BSOD (IRQL not less or equal) upon startup, once I reach windows login screen.
My BSOD dump is attached... please help before my computer bites the dust for good!
Thank you,
Anthony

Sorry for the delay, I can't find a single USB stick around (though I know I have plenty!) Since external hard drives won't work, I'm trying to burn ISO to CD to run, having a few issues though. I think I figured it out. Will update.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow until I can grab another USB stick, I can't get an ISO CD to run the program. I just hope I can get through my login screen again.

I believe you need at least 2GB on the USB drive

[COLOR=Red]Probably caused by : storport.sys [/COLOR]( storport!RaidUnitCompleteRequest+ba )

Followup: MachineOwner
---------
Storport.sys is an OS element, so something is failing there that has significant bearing on storport.sys for sure. A search revealed that you are using nForce as the chipset driver, and that includes nvstor64.sys as the storage controller driver. You need to try to update nForce, as it contains not only the storage controller, but also network controller and a lot of other vital drivers. And, the installed nForce is very old here.
Code:
fffff880`00db8000 fffff880`00df7000 nvstor64 T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: nvstor64.sys

    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, search for nForce, as per your motherboard's chipset specifications.
nForce_zpse7e15947.jpg

Your display driver is also a part of nForce 430
Code:
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)
So it is similarly old.
Code:
fffff880`04862000 fffff880`05369b00 nvlddmkm T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: nvlddmkm.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvlddmkm.sys
[COLOR=Red]    Image name: nvlddmkm.sys
    Timestamp: Fri May 15 02:18:07 2009[/COLOR] (4A0C8387)

    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
And alongwith the storage driver, display driver is also failing.
Code:
fffff880`02f1bc48 fffff880`00dda48cUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvstor64.sys, Win32 error 0n2

And you need to update not only the chipset, but the BIOS too. The BIOS is old enough.
Code:
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 5.17, [COLOR=Red]1/7/2010[/COLOR]
Try to get the BIOS updates from Compaq.

Uninstall PC Doctor, uninstall RegClean Pro. These programs are not only unnecessary, but can cause damage to a windows 7 installation beyond repair.

Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
There may\might be some more issues, but first you need to fix the nForce and BIOS, then the other things may come.

So do these and report us back with the results.

Thank you for such a detailed response. I am in the midst of the SP1 update, and I'll update when it has finished. It appears that it will take quite awhile.

I downloaded/installed service pack 1. I also followed the NVIDIA Download instructions. I also updated my BIOS via COMPAQ. The only issues I still have are A: I can't find PC Doctor to delete, and when I try to update nForce 430, my computer states it is up to date.
I don't know if I should reboot or not at this point...

Reboot ... it will not break anything :)

The main problem of nvidia chipset that the driver updates are not easily available. But updating the BIOS may work somehow, I guess.

Let us know how it runs.
