BSOD On Sleep - Driver not less than or equal

Hello all,

New poster. I have an ASUS Zenbook that has been having BSOD issues basically since I got it back in August 2013. Just now, it was when I closed my laptop for sleep and then reopened it later to revive. However, usually it seems to happen when I am streaming online video while doing other things such as run STATA, R or other fairly memory hungry applications (I watch a lot of twitch.tv while I work on my computer because I'm cool like that :) .) When I shutdown and restart, there doesn't seem to be any apparent issues. The computer has been running a bit slowly lately, but that could be unrelated and I have had many BSODs before that started.

I attached my dump files from the SF Diagnostic Tool. Let me know if any more information would be helpful.

Hi doctasarge.

Apparently the BSOD is caused by Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter driver.

Update it from Drivers for Atheros AR9485WB and Windows 7

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

  • Double click to open it.
  • Click this button only:
  • 2012-12-13_224441.jpg
  • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus (you may keep flux if you want).
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
And which Antivirus you use? Let us know.

Some storage/File system related errors are there, too.

I updated the Atheros site and updated the driver. That's weird though since I did this back in May (I forgot that I got the computer in May '13, not August '13. Sorry.) Is the data dump you referred to saying that I installed in in May '12? I didn't even have the computer then. Maybe I am doing something wrong when I update that. The Atheros site isn't very helpful.

But here are the steps I went through to update

  • DL the driver (the top one on Drivers for Atheros AR9485WB and Windows 7 )
  • go Control Panel: Update Drivers Devices:
  • Find the Atheros Wireless Adapter under network adapters
  • Right-click: Update Driver Software
  • Find the un-RARed drivers and click next.

Seems to work. But I did this in over the summer. Maybe it's fine now though.

I uninstalled Daemon Tools and went through the SPDT steps and had the uninstalled greyed out. Thanks for that. I didn't know that Daemon Tools had issues.

I also stopped everything on start-up. That is a great point. I should have done that before. With that said, on your question on the anti-virus, I use Symantec Endpoint Protection, which I got for free from my university, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the start-up applications list. It seems to be working during start-up though even after my most recent restart. Maybe there is something wrong with my Symantec too that I should look into.

On the SanDisk U100 128GB SSD firmware, I cannot find any info on how to check whether my firmware is up to date. Do you have any advice on how to check this?

I also dont know how to update the firmware to this particular SSD. If the issue persists, we have to take some more help from hardware gurus.

Now, let the computer run normally and observe how it is behaving. Let us know the situation.

Hello again!

Things seemed to be going well there after I made those changes, but I am getting more blue screens. I have gotten two now recently. They happen when I am gaming (so people now hate me on there) but have not happened yet when doing other intense work such as large database stat analysis. Now, the blue screen does not create the dump that it used to (counting from 0 to 100 percent) but just says that there was an error for that. That is the difference I see so far. I attached a new SF dump.

Hmmm. Oh dear. Well that's strange. Could it have something to do with the error that comes up in the BSOD that I was talking about? It doesn't count up to 100% and refer to the memory dump like it used to. Is that saying that it is now unable to get any info on why the BSOD happened? Is there another diagnostic tool I can use perhaps?

It is not a fault of the tool. The tool gathers the files from the system. The system records files on BSOD.

Yeah. So it seemed that the system wasn't writing anything. Usually when it BSODs I think it dumps the memory. But like I was saying it doesn't seem to be doing that. Is this possible not allowing the BSOD to register here? Is there something I can do? Should I just wait for another BSOD?

Thanks.

I made sure that my dump files were up to snuff with the configurations you linked. They were. So I was just waiting for more BSODs to check the dump.

However, now I am having another issue that may or may not be related. For periods, when I am doing anything that uses a lot of resources (namely online gaming or streaming) the computer either completely freezes or just shuts down. It then seems not to do so for a few days. The computer barely feels warm at all or anything. I do not see anything in the BSOD dumps. I looked through my event viewer after doing some research but all I could find was that it said the shutdown was unexpected and then some codes. Is there anything I can do to find out what is going on?

Although I do see a BSOD event from a week ago that I was not even aware of. It seems to still be something with the wireless driver even after I reinstalled it. I will attach the BSOD dump. Is it possible that the driver I have is only for 32x systems rather than my 64x? The Atheros site is in Czech so it is very hard to make sure I am getting the right driver. Could that be the issue?

I got another BSOD. I re installed drivers (wireless and graphics) last week after I was having issues. Things went well until today when I got a BSOD while watching streaming online. I attached the bsod log from the log tool.\
