Solved BSOD on SSD during Backups and CHKDSK

This is my first post in this forum. I usually pride myself at be able to work through problems on my own, but this one is beyond me.

The Raptor drive was my C: drive until I installed a Samsung SSD 840 120GB. I installed the SSD on a Asmedia ASM1061 6g Sata card.

The SSD works as expected with the exception of the BSOD at the end (99% complete) of any type of backup I try. The W7 backups crash and the Reflect Backups crash too.

Yesterday I ran CHKDSK and it crashed at the end too.

For now, I have certain folders sent to the Cloud as they are changed. That is my only type of backup.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ernie

Ernie,

Please try this:

1. Click Start
orb.png

2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Here is the BSOD DMP file.

I had the W7 splash screen off when I did the CHKDSK /f /r scan a few days ago. The scan screen did not show up so I let the scan run until it ended. Or I thought it ended when the system rebooted and started scanning again. I repeated the scan yesterday with the splash screen on. The scan made it to 5 of 5 and about 45% complete when the system rebooted and started the scan again. That's when I stopped it.

I tried Windows back up again. I was able to backup 1 folder successfully. I tried a system image and got the BSOD at 99%. I tried a system image using Reflect and the same thing happened.

Thanks,
Ernie

I've had a quick look but need more help with this. I see you have a few 0x74 errors - have you made any manual edits of the System registry?

Ernie, your bugchecks are all related to I/O errors and corrupted files.

Why did you install the SSD on to an external SATA card?
Other than that if I may ask, why do you need a SATA card for?
(I understand your motherboard only has 3G/s ports).

Just a note, you are not suppose to run the CHKDSK command on an SSD if the built in controller
finds too many bad blocks the drive could lock up.

I suggest you connect the SSD to the on board SATA controller port, back up your data and reinstall Windows correctly.

Regardless of the fact that the hardware probably doesn't match
the driver is very old:

Code:
lmvm asahci64
start end module name
fffff880`0103a000 fffff880`01046000 asahci64 (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\asahci64.sys
    Image name: asahci64.sys
    Timestamp: [U][B][COLOR=Red]Sun Jan 30 07:44:07 2011[/COLOR][/B][/U] (4D44FAA7)
    CheckSum: 0000B0E6
    ImageSize: 0000C000
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

Code:
Name Asmedia 106x SATA Controller
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1B21&DEV_0612&SUBSYS_10601B21&REV_01\4&3009739E&0&0008

Also your BIOS is really old (pre Windows 7):
Code:
BiosReleaseDate = [COLOR=Red][U][B]04/28/2009[/B][/U][/COLOR]
A new version is available.

I'm not sure what soved it. I took all the steps you outlined above.
I removed the SSD card and plugged the SSD to the motherboard.
I updated the BIOS.
I did a fresh install of windows with all the updates.
Then I tried a backup and a clone. They both worked.

Golden mentioned problems with the system registry. The only changes I made to the registry was to get rid of the FBI virus. That was about 7 months ago.

Thanks,
Ernie
