Hi guys, I have a friends laptop I'm trying to fix, get BSOD every time on start up, can boot up in safe mode. It also seems the graphics card is overheating and forcing it to shutdown when it gets too hot, symptoms started after batman: arkham asylum was installed and being played.

I tested the ram just in case, I also tried uninstalling the ATI drivers, to see if i could get it to boot normally no luck there.

Hi,

Did you try doing system restore? If no and If this issue started occurring after doing some recent software changes on your computer, then I would suggest you to restore your system back to a date when it was working fine. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only.

For System Restore steps, you can refer to the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Unfortunately there are no restore points available, I also don't think there will be enough time to do a fresh windows install if it comes to that because of the overheating issue. I imagine the problem lies with a likely damaged graphics card, is it possible to confirm this via the memory dump files? if someone could point me in the right direction of where to look that would be much appreciated.

Complete Memory Dump attached to first post.

  1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if there is no SSD)
  2. Re-seat the sata and power.
  3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Do these and report us back.
