Hello and thanks in advance for any help,

These events started last night at around 7:30pm. I will try and provide as much info as I can however I was not around at the time. I have had issued before like this but usually when installing new hardware or device but I can not seem to determine how to go about fixing this one...

My son was using the computer at the time playing Minecraft when he said the keyboard stopped working. He was able to reboot the system from the start button however upon startup the process stops with BSOD after the Windows screen appears. I have attached the .zip file as requested using the DM log collector.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks

Welcome to SF bfgca1 :) .

The main culprit appears to be the GPU.

Here is what I am suggesting in this case:

Uninstall your installed latest version of the display driver.

Then clean up any possible leftover.

Then install version 13.9 WHQL only.

Thank you for the suggestion - I have tried to uninstall the catalyst driver however I am only able to get Windows up and running in safe mode and I do not seem to be able to run AMD catalyst currently. Any suggestion on how to do this in safe mode?

Thanks

I followed the steps on uninstalling software in safe mode but when I try to start the Windows Installer after doing the regedit steps I get: Error 1084 - The service could not be started in safe mode.

I am in safe mode with networking and I did do the MSIService changes to both the Minimal and the Networking folders.

Sorry for the problems and thanks again for your help

Did you restart after the changes in order for them to take effect?

If you're still not able to unistall CCC the traditional way, locate the driver located:
Code:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\[B]atikmpag.sys[/B]
and rename it to atikmpag.bak and try to start Windows normally,
let me know whether it boots up to the desktop or not.

No problem at all, my pleasure.

Okay so I restarted as you suggested and I was prepared to see the BSOD again and return into safe mode but for some reason this time it booted up to Windows normally!! I'm not sure why because I didn't do anything to Catalyst like uninstalling and reinstalling an earlier version...

The only thing I can think of is that I tightened all of my monitor connections (I went to a 3 monitor system a few months ago). I got the idea when you mentioned that the problem might be the GPU. I had to go off to work but when I get back I will try restarting a few times to make sure it continues to work.

Thanks again for your help - should I keep this thread open or mark as solved at this point?

Leave it open for now and come back in a week or if the system bugchecks again, whichever is prior.
