I have been having troubles now for almost a month, originally when I tried to play a graphically intensive game, I would get artifacts and then it would freeze up. I have been playing around with a few different drivers and now the problem has worsened. I can only run in safe mode when any nvidia driver is installed because on startup I get a flickering black screen at the log on point then there is a freeze, followed by a BSOD 0x116 nvlddmkm.sys.
I have also opened up the back and there doesn't seem to be any dust build up.
- Asus g51j - Notebook - latest bios (208)
- Windows 7x64 OEM
- 15 months old
- gtx 260m gpu
- drivers tried: 258.96, 260.89, 260.99, 266.58, 267.34, 267.76
- Each time i have uninstalled and used driver sweeper.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
These were caused by a video problem. Could be driver, card, power, or heat.
I would start with re-installing JUST the driver (no other utilities).
If that doesnt help download cpu-z, and gpu-z to keep an eye on the temps.
If that isnt the answer we can start investigating the power.
In the mean time I would test the ram
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.
Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.
Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.
Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.
AND run a system file check
Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW
