hi,
i built my friends computer for him, (not my first) and went to install win 7 ultimate 64bit. the system booted just fine started the "windows is loading files" screen, once all the files loaded it went to the "starting windows" screen where the orbs of light come together to form the windows emblem, but a couple seconds after it goes from loading files to starting it BSODs.

the system specs are:
-Windows 7 ultimate 64 Bit - purchased
-OEM caviar green WD 500GB HDD
-OEM Samsung Bluray drive
-AMD Phenon II x4 925 (processor)
-Asus M4A87TD EVO (motherboard)
-EVGA Nvidia 9600 GSO (video card)
-Rosewill 650 watt PSU

i have updated the bios to the most recent build, and the bsod changed what it was complaining about... from

1. netio.sys [DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL]
to
2. netio.sys [PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA]

this happens with win 7 64bit,

i tried to install 32bit vista ultimate and it bsoded again, same place, only the bsod pointed to something else...

pci.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (oxffffff85, 0x00000001, 0x8071e3fc, 0x00000000)

*** pci.sys - address 8071e3fc base at 80715000, datestamp 4549adc1

after that i tried to install windows xp home ed. sp1, that actually worked, and i was able to run it, and got it updated to sp3 and ran the windows 7 update advisor (that file is attached, 64bit and 32bit said the same thing).

after it was fully updated, i put the vista 32bit disk back in to try the upgrade system option, it work just fine till it had to restart, at which point it would load a black screen and do nothing..

i thought that it might have been caused by the upgrading, maybe the MBR needed to be reset, so i put in my win 7 boot loader repair disk, but right after that loaded the files, it BSODed.

last ditch effort i tried a copy of windows 7 ultimate 32bit, once it finished loading files it froze in the "starting windows" screen. so i tried it again but told it to boot setup in safemode, that seemed to work, it started spewing all the drivers that it was loading, then once it reached "disk.sys" it BSODed, pointing at "msrpc.sys" with a datestamp of "00000000"

right now the computer is running killdisk to reformat the HDD.. i am running out of ideas, please help me..

How is your drive configured in the BIOS - as SATA or IDE? Have you updated the BIOS? Have you set default values in the BIOS? How much RAM do you have installed? Have you tried installing with all but the basic hardware installed? Have you tried disabling your onboard NIC?

the HDD is a sata drive, the bios is fully updated, i have set the values in the bios, but there i am a little fuzzy on how everything should be set. there are 2 sticks of 2gb kingston memory, and the bios recognizes it just fine. i have tried removing all unnecessary components, but it doesn't change anything, i do not believe i have changed the onboard NIC settings, it might still be on..

alright, here is whats happened over the last few days...

i checked:
1. the memory using memtest86+ and windows memory diag. off of hiren's boot CD
2. the HDD using the western digital HDD diag off of Hiren's

after that turned up nothing i decided to try to install the os to the HDD from another computer. i figured that if it didn't then it was a hard drive issue, if it did, then it was something else... it did. right now the hard drive has win 7 64bit installed and fully updated.

i have tried to have the computer boot from the HDD, but no luck, i dont get a blue screen, but it will reset the computer at the same spot. also it reaches a different driver if i tell it to boot in safemode, it stops just after a driver named [something]pnp.sys (i cant remember the full name, i will post it when i get back infront of that computer).

im leaning toward it being a motherboard driver issue... this leads me to my question, is there a way to add drivers to a windows filesystem (in particular the boot) without installing them from a cd, ie. copying the files from the cd to the required folders.

the other thing i wanted to add was that i checked where minidump is supposed to be (c:\windows\minidump) and its not there, and searching for ".dmp" turns up nothing. am i doing something wrong? do i have to change some settings before its enabled?

thanks

You can use nLite to slipstream 3rd party drivers to an install .ISO

hey everyone,
sorry i haven't posted in awhile, we finally fixed it.

as it turned out it was the ram we were using in the computer, a simple piece of crucial memory fixed it and i have sent the other ram back to newegg. thanks for all the suggestions, i have learned alot from this issue. thanks again.
