BSOD only when watching videos

Hi,

So i've been having this issue for about a week now where randomly my display adapter will stop working and then recover after a few seconds and then if this repeats then after a few times it will blue screen.

Originally this was happening whilst playing the game Terraria and nothing else seemed to trigger it. But after I updated my graphics card driver to AMD Catalyst 15.7.1 it stopped doing that with Terraria but now seems to be doing it with videos.

I have experienced it doing it whilst watching YouTube and Facebook videos and so far these are the only 2 causes. A thought I had though is that whenever It crashed with YouTube I also had Facebook opened in another tab so could it be an issue with Facebook?

I have tried uninstalling, rolling back and reinstalling my graphics card driver. I've even gone in and removed all of the dust from my PC and graphics card but nothing seems to be fixing this issue.

I have never experienced any issue like this before and it seems to be completely random i.e sometimes I can be watching videos all day and it doesn't happen and then others it will do it on every video.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :D

This is the most recent BSOD message that I got:

The problem is caused by your graphics driver. Run Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU)
Make sure you tick the Uninstall C:/AMD and C:/NIVIDA folders while you are in DDU when you are done running DDU install your graphics driver again and you should be good to go! This is the guide for DDU: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/367109-display-driver-uninstaller-how-use.html

Remember to remove Catalyst and only install the graphics driver.

Also update your DirectX drivers.

Okay, I have used the DDU so I am now just waiting to see if the problem persists. Also I can't uninstall catalyst as requested, because catalyst takes control of drivers for pretty much everything and the last time I uninstalled it, it removed my mouse and keyboard drivers and it was a nightmare installing them again

Okay so the first youtube video i watch on fullscreen has the issue. I've noticed though that it doesn't actually come up with a message saying that the display adapter stopped responding or anything. All that happens is the screen freezes for 1-2 seconds and then it flashes black and then back to the video

Okay so it doesn't seem to be BSOD anymore but it still flashes the video on and off (similar to wehn display adapter stops responding) whilst in fullscreen. Also i have noticed, the longer i leave it in fullscreen the more frequently it happens. For example I was just watching a video and it went from crashing every 2 minutes to every 1 minute and then to every 10 seconds.

This is probably a bad monitor, can you replace the monitor and see if that works?

That is a valid suggestion, however when the video freezes it freezes both of my monitors. Would a monitor issue also be able to effect a 2nd monitor as well?

As a way of testing I am currently using my second monitor to play fullscreen videos so I will update if this fixes the issue

Playing fullscreen youtube videos on my 2nd monitor doesn't seem to have the issue at all. Could this be an issue with a faulty cable going into my main monitor or do you think that it would need to be replaced?

It's worth checking the cables first, exchange the cables from the second monitor to the main monitor.

So the problem seems to keep changing all the time. Earlier I was able to watch the videos fullscreen on my 2nd monitor fine but then randomly the display adapter crashed so i moved the video back over to my main monitor and after about 10 minutes it BSOD.

This is extremely frustrating as it's making it almost impossible to figure out what is causing the issue in the first place.

Did you exchange the cables? If you did and it didn't work then it's the monitors faulty.

So i've noticed that using Firefox doesn't seem to have the issue as often. For example today i watched 11 15minute videos without any issue at all. However the 12th episode had considerably lower fps than the previous 11 and funnily enough the display drvier crashing returned on this video. Could the fps of a video actually be contributing to the video? As i said before it was perfectly fine on all other episodes but once the fps was lower it seemed to return.

It's not the FPS at all, it can't be. But you haven't answered my question: Have you exchanged the cables? If you did and it didn't work then it's the monitors faulty.

I'm reluctant to swap out the cables because I have 0 issues with anything other than youtube. I can play games at max settings and it never once crashes the display adapter or flashes or anything. Only youtube causes this issue so i don't see how swapping the cable out would achieve anything

The issue is becoming more and more ridiculous and I can't find any kind of source of it. It crashes the display adapter now whenever I am using a browser on either screen and it doesn't just seem to be videos anymore as it will sometimes crash just when clicking a link to a site in google search.

I think i will download windows 10 or something soon, and hopefully that will resolve the issue
