Howdy,
System specs are in profile, jgriff dump plus perfmon attached. Various
BSOD happening once or twice a day, not the end of the world but until I learn to read the dump files I'd appreciate some help. Thanks to all, this is a wonderfully supportive forum.

Hi

STOP 0x000000DE: POOL_CORRUPTION_IN_FILE_AREA
Usual causes:
Device driver, ?Memory

Your latest dump file blames ntkrnlmp.exe which is a Windows System file and is highly unlikely to be the cause.
All four dump files indicate device drivers as the first option, but your drivers look good.

What happened in Parts 1 & 2?

Did you run Memtest86+ at all?
Are your RAM settings correct?
If those check out I think Driver Verifier needs to be run until it crashes. Or have you done that?

Fimble,
sorry, forgot to answer 1 question. RAM settings are default for the mobo and RAM type so I assume that they are correct. I'm not overclocking ANYTHING....

Just an update, 1 BSOD yesterday, not bothering to post dump unless it happens again. I'm going to log them (write down the messages) and see if there is a pattern. Driver Verifier looks kinda scary, and unless I'm crashing 6 times a day, I can be patient.

I've run a few days, 1 day I had 3 different BSODs, nothing else since. I've a feeling I've got a hidden hardware issue, but that's just a hunch. I'm trying to find the time to learn how to read dump files (CarlTR6 has given me guidance in this direction) so I won't bother the board unless I'm crippled or stumped. Holy moderators, please give this thread a green check as a warning to others.
Thanks Fimble, I'll be in touch if anything interesting happens.

OK, had a BSOD today, PFN_List_corrupt. I've seen it before so I'm posting the dump files. Anyone who can offer advice, lemme know. No big deal, just curious

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Also memory. I would run memtest as indicated

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Thanks, zigzag. I ran memtest last week, 7 passes, no errors. I'll run down the offending drivers one by one and report my findings.

I finally had a chance to revisit this. The offending drivers are as follows, and have been dealt with as noted:
RimUsb_AMD64.sys 5/14/2007 11:06:16 Blackberry renamed.xxx (don't have a Blackberry any more)
ctac32k.sys 7/2/2008 3:38:22 Creative sound card didn't touch it yet
Rt64win7.sys 2/26/2009 4:04:13 Realtek NIC (mobo) device disabled in BIOS and Device Mgr (left driver alone)
spldr.sys 5/11/2009 11:56:27 Windows driver didn't touch it yet
GEARAspiWDM.sys 5/18/2009 7:17:04 Itunes didn't touch it yet
amdxata.sys 5/19/2009 12:56:59 AMD some damn thing renamed .xxx (no AMD parts whatsoever)
athrx.sys 7/8/2009 left over atheros driver renamed .xxx (must be left over from old wireless PCI card)

spldr.sys and amdxata.says do not require an update.

Update these two drivers, please.

If problem persists, test the RAM with Memtest86+: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
- Run at least 7 passes (will take 6-8 hours)
- Do this overnight
- Burn .iso using a CD burning program (preferably Imgburn)
- Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Regards...

I updated the Creative driver this morning, didn't get a chance to hunt down the other one. I'll do that tonight and we'll see what happens. I ran Memtest for 7 passes about two weeks ago, no errors.
Thanks Dean

If problem persists, you will need to find that Netgear Driver.

I renamed the NetGear driver to scnmdisp.xxx and rebooted. I think that might have been left over from my old PCI network adapter. New USB adapter has driver dated in 2010 and is working fine. I will update if the sucker blows up again. Thanks again, DeanP.
