My PC has been crashing frequently over the last 3 weeks when a) I play Far Cry 2 or b) play Far Cry 2 and watch a video (Divx). It BSODs sometimes up to 10 times a day. It might crash within 5 minutes of gaming or after a 2 or even 4 hours. Then it might crash several times in a row when starting up after the initial crash. According to BlueScreenView bug check string can be one of the following when it BSODs:
* MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
* UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
* PAGE_FAULT_IN NONPAGED_AREA
* DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Files that keep cropping up include:
* ntoskrnl.exe (most common one by far)
* fileinfo.sys
* ks.sys
* dump_ataport.sys
* nvlddmkm.sys
*WDFLDR.SYS
*dxgmms1.sys

I've run memtest86+ via USB for 2 passes with no errors. HCI's memtest would BSOD within 5 minutes of starting so no complete tests with that.

PC SYSTEM
Operating System: Windows Home Premium 64 bit SP1
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 840 3.2 GHZ
Motherboard: ASUS M4N68T-M GeForce 7025 Chipset AM3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333
HDD: Seagate 500GB 7200 RPM
Video Card: GTX 560 1GB Dual DVI/HDMI

I took into the manufacturer as it was still under warranty. Useless! Reckons it's a software problem not hardware. I've uploaded the details (several BSODs over last few days) in the mugly2k.zip file. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Got it.

Is any of your hardware overclocked?

I've got MSI Afterburner and I used that now and again to do some 'safe' overclockking, but that was up to December last year. Never had any BSOD problems till about 3-4 weeks ago. I keep ASUS EPU-4 on 'auto' most of the time. Apart from that, nothing much. I did try and install Far Cry (original; game still rocks) about a month ago. It didn't run as it needed to be updated. But I had a BSOD after the installation when I tried to play the game. The fan spun loud (was it overheating?) before it BSOD'd for the first time. And then it's just been BSOD one after the other since then. I tried RegProCure, didn't work right after I installed (and uninstalled) Far Cry. As far as I can remember the BSODs seemed to start with that Far Cry installation. Even tried restoring (several times) to before Far Cry and RegCurePro installation. It didn't help. As far as I remember it was a rock solid computer right up to the Far Crygate incident. I hope that helps.

Other hopefully useful info. I use MS Office Enterprise 2007, Google Chrome, Vipre Antivirus 2012 (I run it regularly), Aida64 Extreme Edition (never used it, can't now because evaluation period over), BurnInTest (installed by the manufacturer, hasn't shown any errors when I run it). I've also got a Brother MFC 8860 multifunction laser printer attached. I uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite a 1 1/2 weeks ago. I've also done a defrag, prebootup disk check--no problems showed up. I've noticed pre-bootup 'Startup Rapair' starts but doesn't complete successfully. When I'm doing normal non-gaming stuff, it rarely ever BSOD's. It seems to only do that when gaming, at the start, during or when I've finished. Like if I stop playing and nothing happened when I was playing, guaranteed it will BSOD within 5 minutes. It also BSODs now and again when watching videos (always use Divx), although not as frequently as when gaming. A couple of times it's BSOD when I ran Vipre. Driving me nuts, this is... as Yoda would say, lol!

Haven't done any overclocking for at the last 8 months. No BSODs till a month ago. Daemon Tools was installed a week and a half ago. I've uninstalled Vipre and have installed MSE. Have done a quick scan, no problems revealed. I've just started a full scan. I'll try and play Far Cry 2 afterwards to test... I'll post the results after.

A full scan revealed no problems. Ran memtest and got the following message:

"Memory error detected! Copying between 17862e3 and 178621a did not result in accurate copy. Memtest has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAM. You need to fix this. See the online FAQ, question #2 (MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows) for advice on what to do next."

Ran memtest again twice, on both occasions the computer froze within 5 minutes of starting the test. Played Far Cry 2 after, the game froze within about 10 minutes. PC even froze twice when I tried to post this reply last night. I've never tweaked the bios, RAM speed etc. I'm wondering if I should hit up the manufacturer for (Hynix) RAM replacement. At least with new RAM continuing problems will rule that out and point at other issues. I'm reluctant to open up the case at this point, this will void the existing warranty which expires in Jan 2013. What do you think? Feedback would be appreciated. Cheers.

Yes, since we understand that its the RAM you should get it replaced.
Feel free to come back to this thread when you can.
