Since this thread is hanging on both the BDoS relevance and hardware/software/graphics cards sections I have been trying to decide where I should post it. I've eventually decided to post it in the BDoS section. If users or staff should find this topic inappropriate in this location I'd have it corrected immediately.

I have been getting blue screens related to my video card for quite a while now both when playing a game or simply sitting idle. There are certain things that trigger a bluescreen or a driver failure (i.e. opening MP4 files, starting applications that use DX or OpenGL such as games ect.)

My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 5670 with 1024 MB GDDR5 memory. By default my core clock is running a maximum of 775 MHz and my memory clock is running a maximum 1010MHz. I've experienced more system stability and have actually been able to run The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim smoothly by declocking both clocks down by a 100 MHz (675MHz / 910Mhz) for multiple hours but am still experiencing issues and occasional blue screens from session to session (some sessions seem more stable than others). The power supply to the processor is set by default to a minimum of 800 MHz and a maximum of 2800 MHz.

My graphics card drivers are run by Catalyst Control Center 13.12 of which the driver packet version is registered as 13.251-131206a-166389C-ATI. My Direct3D versions is 9.14.10.01001 and my OpenGL version is 6.14.10.12618.

So far digging across various forums and websites I have discovered that a large group of people using the (MSI/AMD/ATI) Radeon (HD) 4xxx and 5xxx series in their systems have been experiencing major driver malfunction following the last updates. Despite the seemingly large group of people having a similar or set of problems I'm having difficulty finding specific issues relating to the AMD Radeon HD 5670 though most Radeon cards share the same drivers or driver packets.


So far I've done/tried the following things:

• I've ruled out that it is a hardware issue as running the card on another computer has yielded no problems whatsoever.
• I've also tried running a different graphics card in my system and the same problems persisted.
• I've also ruled out heating being a possible cause as the graphics card remains within normal heat parameters, even while running demanding applications.
• I've completely cleaned out the heatsink and applied new thermal paste.
• I've been running my current system configuration for quite a while so I wouldn't consider bad system alchemy to be the cause. I've also been unable to find any conflicts.
• All my system memory cards have yielded no anomaly's.
• Completely reinstalled Windows 7 on a new seagate harddrive and the same issues persisted running the same drivers (there are no alternative drivers)
• I've tested and ran a variation of under/overclock profiles and settings, some variations providing more stability than others but the problems still persisted. Though given less frequently with certain settings
• I've also done a clean install of the driver's software. I rolled back as far as v10 series but that seemed to have cause more stability issues.
• I've been unable to determine if voltage fluctuations or sensor anomaly's have a possible roll on the problem.

I'm hoping this thread will yield new insight for me and others that could have the same issue or further assistance from people with more knowledge and/or experience on the matter. I've attached a picture of the actual bluescreen, though it is of poor quality. I've also included the requested information in the zip folder.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

The GPU is overclocked by default, I've 'down'clocked it by values of 100 each which has yielded more system stability.

I have the following results screening my system with speccy taken during startup, a 4 hour session and stressing the card. They have been attached in a zip file named accordingly.

Using FurMark has yielded the following results.

15/20 minutes, though the card rarely reaches that point during normal usage. The crashes are also inconsistent with the temperature.

Furmark will generate heat, that is normal.

So far I've been running successfully without any catastrophic failures for 4 separate sessions each lasting from 2 to 4 hours. GPU and system stability seems to variate per each session. So far I've had occasions where I had horizontal and vertical lines flashing across my screen with the color depending on the on screen color. I've had a few black and grey screens and driver blackouts of which the system recovered itself from within seconds.

I've been unable to specifically trigger either GSoS' or BSoD's or the artifacts and flashes as they seem to happen at random during any running application. It being full screen or windowed. So far playing with the clock settings

I've found that the most stability is found swaying lower than 100 MHz from the system default settings.

I've been unable to find any anomaly's with either my voltage or system sensors.
Though system stability seems to be up on-screen anomaly's with the graphics card remain. So far non of them have been leading to catastrophic system failure. The driver has been able to reinitialize itself so far.

Currently not really an option as the only person with the same card is unavailable for a prolonged period of time. Unless you mean acquiring a different card all together.

Just put the GPU in the PCIe slot. If it is anything other than AMD Radeon, apply the driver. Nothing more is needed.
