[mobo issue...oh my...] BSOD playing Hearthstone

[Update post 2] Being a noob to all this, I was not clear as to how important the mobo was. After digging around, I found a command prompt. Turns out the motherboard is a Foxconn 2A8C. Alarmed at what I read about this make/model, I cracked the case to find my worst suspicions confirmed: right next to his little wheel, the hamster lay dead. Rest in peace little guy...

[Update post 1] After reading the instructions for posting again, I realized my PC was not collecting the data needed. Accordingly, I set up a reg dump and recreated the problem. Hopefully, the zip file attached to this post contains the data required to diagnose/debug the issue

Make sure you get your PC completely up to date. You can do so using windows update.

This shows that you are having graphic issues. Uninstall all graphics drivers(including the AMD Catalyst Control Center and only install the display drivers).

1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
2. Click Start Menu
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Uninstall a program
5. For AMD:
   • Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
   • If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers (this applies to onboard graphics, as well):
     1. Click Start Menu
     2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
     3. Click Manage
     4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
     5. Expand Display adapters
     6. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
        • Right click the adapter
        • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
        • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
     Alternatively:
     1. Login as an adminstrative user
     2. Click Start Menu
     3. Click Control Panel
     4. Click Hardware and Sound
     5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
     6. Expand Display adapters
     7. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
        • Right click the adapter
        • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
        • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

After this please post back results.

Hi Honor Gamer,

First off, my apologies if I sounded impatient as that was not my intention. I was making a joke about what I didn't know and subsequently discovered about the age and apparent crappiness of the current mobo. That said, your recommendations were very helpful!

Here’s what I did:

Service Pack 1 – I run the MS Updater regularly, so it’s pretty alarming it did not detect SP1 was missing and alert me to this fact. After reading your response, I located the SP 1 download, installed it, then received over 120 updates from Microsoft. Kind of scary…

ATI Catalyst – uninstalled this program successfully via the control panel. However was unable to get old driver software to uninstall w/o Windows 7 replacing it. I read a LOT of pages/posts on the subject but failed to make this happen.

Currently, the ATI software is gone, but the driver remains the one Windows 7 says ‘is the most current’. I will keep searching for a place to get just the driver without their damn catalyst installer getting in the way…

Anyway, thanks again, and I’ll mark this as solved if the BSOD even cannot be recreated in a few days.

It took quite a while but occurred again. I am going to work on getting rid of the ATI Catalyst and only installing the driver again tomorrow. But maybe something new in here...

After I replaced the driver, I had a full day of playing Hearthstone and a few other graphics-heavy programs , I had intended to come on here and mark the problem as solved.

Then another BSOD event occurred just now. Same game...

Uploaded a new mini-dump.

I did some research, because I see this

SBRE	ROOT\LEGACY_SBRE\0000	This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.

Follow this: SBRE, is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr24". - Microsoft Community


The BSOD also blamed your video drivers, so...
