I got a random BSOD while playing League of Legends on a new custom made gaming computer, which rapidly disappeared as the computer restarted. I selected to restore (as recommended) and got the same screen but it stayed. The only information provided is an error code of 0x000000F7...

I attempted to start the computer in safe mode however I still got the same BSOD.

Now the computer refuses to even start with no signal output to the screen. I also tried disconnecting all usb devices (mouse, usb wifi adaptor) due to the type of error but with no success. After a long time being off (I was out helping a family member out) I came back and tried once again and it logged on fine. I proceeded to run the windows update and before I could look at the drivers and error log I got the BSOD again. Now its back to no signal/startup.

Please help as I am stuck and don't know what it could be.

Thanks.

Boot from your Win 7 DVD...;)

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I would have provided it already but like I said I cannot see anything when I boot up now... there is no signal going to the screen. The lights are on but nobodies home apparently...

I will try in the morning and hopefully after another long wait I might be able to start up and get in to grab the minidump.

Thanks.

Please read through > Bug Check 0x4E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Is your computer under Warranty?

Do you have a Win 7 DVD?

Would you please fill in your system specs so that we know what we are dealing with.

Have you a laptop or desktop?

Your options are becoming limited.
As we say here you are almost "stuffed."

If you need to backup your data, PartedMagic is a good bootable program for doing so. You can download it from the left pane and burn to a CD on another computer that is working, i.e. the one you are accessing the forums with perhaps. Then you can copy files to an external drive to back them up.

I also got the HD6670 graphics card upgrade. I had not yet decided what operating system configuration I was using (was going to have 2 partitions with windos 7 and Linux) so I used a downloaded version of W7 ultimate to try it (although I doubt thats the problem). I also thought it came preloaded as per information... LIES.

I have being trying to recall steps taken and I may have missed a catalyst driver for the graphics card (the instal disk was very ambiguous as to weather it needed one or both).

I am not sure how the seller will react but I have sent them an email about a return, although I am considering possibly just purchasing a new 2tb HDD (I want more storage and a faster drive anyway) to connect up and start from scratch then reformat the current as a slave... opinions?

Also I don't mind about saving the data as I only had a few programs, 1 game and no files loaded before this happened. But cheers writhziden, I will jot down that program cause it might come in handy in the future :).

Cheers,
Sam.

Your Windows 7 could be the issue depending on where you got it. If it was from the official downloads links with digitalrivercontent in the link name, then it shouldn't be an issue unless it somehow was corrupted, though I doubt it would have installed if it was corrupted. Where did you get the download?

well it's obviously an illegal version through a torrent site, however it was from a pretty reliable source usually (a regular provider). I'm not going to blow $200 in the hope the genuine instal disk will help (cause I don't think that's the issue because I can't even get to te bios. I'm still waiting to hear back from the seller about returning the system and installing a new 60gb SSD with windows 7 and all drivers (get them to be thorough :P). But because of the holidays it could be weeks till I even hear from them :S. Wish they would have just included all software/driver installs in the price....

You can download an official version that is not a crack or illegal version. Just search Google for windows 7 sp1 integrated iso offical direct download link. You can burn a legitimate DVD and see if it fixes the issues. If you can't get into the BIOS, though, that sounds hardware related.

try the following:
1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to clear the software connections between the BIOS and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
4. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall.
5. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware, and post back your results.

It is a PC btw, and I followed your steps and there was no change. Still did not receive any signal to the monitor and could not hear any activity. I will also start downloading and burning the iso you mentioned in the small hope it will work...

thanks for the idea

Cheers,
Sam.

The next step would be to turn off the computer, unplug it, hold down the power button for 30 seconds (this time for your safety), and take the case off. Remove components such as the graphics card and RAM modules (leave only the CPU and CPU fan as these are a pain to remove), blow out any and all dust using a compressed air can or the equivalent, blow all dust off components, and replace the components back into their slots securely.

Make sure you are grounded for the above process to prevent any electrostatic discharge. Once your components are replaced, put the case back on, plug the computer back in, and start the computer up. I have seen cases where this process fixes boot issues like you are seeing. Let us know if you get any change in your computer.

I will need to wait to ask the seller about doing this as it might void the warranty but I will certainly try doing my own troubleshooting (disconnect certain hardware one by one to isolate the issue) and some dust busting before resorting to sending it back (as it's on the other side of the country).

I'll let you know what happened when it does.

Cheers.

p.s. lesson learned... buy local :)

Good plan to talk to your vendor first. Best not to do anything to void the warranty so you can get it taken care of at little to no cost if you have the option.

I spoke with the seller and they gave me permission to do some diagnosing. I took out the graphics card and started it up and there was no change, did the same for the HDD and CMOS battery and nothing.... so I am waiting for a friend to come back from holidays who fixes computers and is very good to take a look at it. I just haven't had the time to organise much recently but yeah it looks like its a hardware issue with either the CMOS, power supply or motherboard to me.
