If you are overclocking, set everything back to default.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

And follow the guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...top-0x124-what-means-what-try.html#post354696

Let us know the results.

I hit about 9100 frames in 30 minutes in furmark before I stopped it and the temperature was at a constant 52~51C, no artifacts either so I'm assuming it's passed?

Still doing the rest

EDIT: Ran Prime95 for 2 hours, all passes no errors or warnings. I'll test the RAM tonight :)

Also, I don't know what the default settings are for my desktop so..

Continue with the tests, and inform us the results.

Enter into the BIOS and see if the CPU clock settings are set to be default or not.

Asking it coz it is difficlt to get rid of stop 0x124 in an overclocked system.

The CPU settings are set on auto so I'm not sure what to do about that

No BSOD yesterday or today so I'm not sure whether I should still check it out

My desktop WAS moved though so maybe a loose cable?

EDIT: I take it back, I just had another BSOD while playing ARMA 2

Also I have the memtest on usb and boot settings on usb first but it doesn't run

That's a good step.

If the crashes with stop 0x124 continue to occur, follow it step #9 of http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...top-0x124-what-means-what-try.html#post354696.
9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope that the culprit is something non-essential which can be removed. Obviously, this type of testing is a lot easier if you've got access to equivalent components in order to perform swaps.

I do have extra RAM that's equivalent and a few spare video cards so I'll run the memtest first then resort to that if I have to.

Okay so I have come to the realization finally that it's probably an overheating issue because it happens after a few hours or sometimes not at all

Should I replace the thermal paste? Video Card? Maybe dust it out?

Check the system temps using speccy .... is it really overheating?

If so, do these, step by step.
1. Clean inside the computer, Specially the air vents and the fan grills.
2. Open the CPU, check the thermal paste. If possible, apply thermal paste again.
3. Afford additional cooling.

Only explanation I can think of especially since it occurs after being on for awhile

plus there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the other components

Actually maybe I should elaborate on what happens,

when it crashes sometimes it shows green vertical stripes, the sound continues playing most of the time until it restarts.

Personally I would be redoing the thermal compounds on everything CPU GPU and giving the whole thing a good clean out. Clean out the GPU and RAM slots - cut a thin strip of credit card (round off the corners) and wrap a small piece of non fluffy microweave cloth over the end dampen it with a tiny bit of alcohol and GENTLY wipe down the slots.

If you know what the temps are anything in excess of 50C I would be starting to get concerned about. Most devices with chips have Tcase measurements and if you can find the out use that as the base for being concerned Tcase is see this for more info on what this is - Processors — Processor operation temperature FAQ

First thing we need this.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

As Arc has already recommended use Speccy for temps and specs also.
It would also help with a little history of what you have done working with the hardware trying to fix this problem.
Until this problem is repaired no overclocking.
Very precise answers to question and we should be able to help you get fixed.
-----------
Look in the lower left of Arc's or my post (My System Specs) that is the kind of information we need installed there. I will follow your every post.

I don't see the OP's specs. It very well might be temp related. We can't really help fix a car if we don't know what kind of car we are working on.
We also need to know what has already been done or tried. (Some History)
