BSOD Playing World of Tanks "Bad Pool Header"

Playing world of tanks I had a BSOD that said "Bad Pool Header" then of course a bunch of stuff that means nothing to me... I have downloaded the SF Diag tool and will attack the zip with my dumps/diag info here...

As a Side note... the BSOD does the memory dump then supposedly "restarts" the computer but mine just sits there on a black screen until I manually hold the power button down to turn it off then turn it back on....

Probably caused by : Pool_Corruption ( nt!ExDeferredFreePool+312 )

Usual causes:  Device driver

avgidsshimx.sys seems to be a driver which is causing the crash, and linked to AVG, therefore I suggest uninstalling AVG with the offical installer (see link below)

Uninstall AVG:

Start Menu\Programs\AVG

• Download tools and utilities | AVG UK

Uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy:

Start Menu\Programs\Spybot - Search & Destroy

The later editions of AVG have been known to cause some stability issues with Windows 7, furthermore I would suggest uninstalling Spybot, as AVG and Spybot are both real-time protection programs and therefore are clashing with each other and producing crashes.

You can run full scans with MSE and Malwarebytes:

• Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

:info: Remember to install the free version of Malwarebytes not the free trail; untick the free trail box during installation. Microsoft Security Essentails has proven to much more stable and less problematic within Windows 7, than other AV suites available to use. Remember to update the security definitions for both MSE and Malwarebytes before scanning your system.

Uninstall Free Window Registry Repair:

Start Menu\Programs\Free Window Registry Repair

Registry cleaners tend to always cause more damage to the system, and can lead to a unbootable operating system.

Update BIOS (if possible):

BIOS Version/Date	American Megatrends Inc. V2.1B1, [COLOR="Red"]6/6/2008[/COLOR]

Your BIOS is very old, check for any possible BIOS updates, and check for any compatibility issues with:

I've replaced AVG with Microsoft Security Essentials... and removed the Spybot and Registry programs you mentioned...

I have also downloaded the Windows 7 Prep tool you mentioned but have not run it yet...

I am prepping a USB Stick to run memtest while I sleep/leave later to see if that shows any errors.

I had another crash when I came home from work, monitors were off in standby/sleep which is normal, but nothing would happen when I moved the mouse pressed keys... Ended up having to turn the PC off and back on again and when it came up it said windows had crashed, etc... This crash occurred before I took the steps mentioned so far.

Okay I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor... No errors... 3 "warning" where it says they don't know if the program is compatible or not... but they are programs that are not always running and certainly haven't been in use when my computer has been crashing...

Personally I am leaning towards this being hardware related... On that note I'm going to be running Memtest as a first check....

If there are no errors there, I am going to look into testing the hard drives I guess? Any suggestion on how to find out if one of my drives is starting to go bad?

Just had a new crash AFTER removing the programs you recommended, installing MSE, and running the Win 7 Evaluator thing....

Attached is a new SF Diagnostic file...

Again after this crash the computer attempted a restart but my monitors went into standby and after them not coming on after 2-3 minutes I manually cycled them off and on and they said there was no signal... Had to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button until the computer shut off then turn it back on...

This further leads me to believe this is a hardware failure... But what it is I'm not sure, the fact that I couldnt even see Bios Post or anything I am leaning towards Mainboard, Memory, or Video Card, or a combination of them all LOL this computer is about 4 years old after all

When did you remove AVG?

The 0xA crash occurred on the process of the avgrsx.exe, which is a AVG Resident Shield Service, have you used the official AVG uninstaller provided in my first post?

Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferrly overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

The last set of logs/diag stuff I uploaded on post #5 was AFTER Avg and Spybot had been removed and MSE had been installed...

Between work and sleep yesterday I've been working on the Memtest stuff....

So far:

Dimm 1-4 all Passed on Slot 1.
Dimm 1,2 both failed immediately upon the test starting in Slot 2(I didn't bother testing 3,4 in this slot...)
Dimm 1,2 both Passed on Slot 3. Dimm 3 currently running in Slot 3.
No tests run on Slot 4 yet...

Finished testing the Ram Slots and Dimms with the following results:

1. Slot 1 - Dimms 1-4 all passed 0 errors
2. Slot 2 - Dimms 1-2 multiple errors within 5 mins of starting the test, did not test Dimms 3-4 in this slot...
3. Slot 3 - Dimms 1-4 all passed 0 errors
4. Slot 4 - Dimms 1-2 multiple errors within 5 mins of starting test, did not test Dimms 3-4 in this slot...

So I am now running with just two dimms in slots 1 and 3 for 4gb of Ram...

I also had been doing more research and saw something about corrupt windows user profiles sometimes causing seemingly random errors so I created a new User Profile in Windows and have been using that. So far I have used the computer about 3-4 hours including playing games and not had any crashes.

I am off work the next two days and will be on the computer a lot (I hope) so I'll see how it goes and hope for a crash free weekend.

BlueRobot... Maybe you missed it in my prev post or didnt understand... I am about 95% certain that the problem is fixed... Just going to see how the computer runs over the next 2 days to be sure

Motherboard Slot 1 - All 4 ram sticks ran 7 or more passes clean 0 errors

Motherboard Slots 2 & 4 - the first 2 ram sticks I tried had 100's of errors within 2-3 minutes of starting the test...

Results = All 4 of my RAM modules are clean.... Slots 2 and 4 on my motherboard are seriously screwed.


Right now I am back to Running Windows and playing games albeit with less RAM installed since I left the 2 bad slots empty... So far no crashes.

After a week without a crash it happened again!! I have changed nothing since the last post a week ago when I said I thought everything was corrected. And had not had any crashes or issues since that time.

Attached are new SF Diagnostic files if you don't mind glancing over it to see if anything sticks out as a likely culprit.

memory_corruption doesn't necessary mean that a RAM module is faulty, it can also point to a object which corrupted the RAM at the time of the crash, for instance a corrupted driver or program. Paging files and the CPU caches can also be causes.

Follow these steps -

Test for any corrupted drivers, by running Driver Verifier for least 24 hours, stop the test if a BSOD occurs before this time frame. Driver Verifier will place stress on the drivers within your system, which will cause corrupted drivers to crash and hopefully be pinpointed.

We have already tested the RAM.
