Hello,

I recently purchased my machine about 4 weeks ago and i have been having problems with it. I have done much research online on the causes of bsod. From what i have read it can be a lot of different things. Windows updates to drivers to hardware etc. My first factory reset was after i was always getting bsod while playing games such as lfd2, bf2. I thought it was caused by steam or windows update and even drivers because i had downloaded drivers from ati website for my graphics card. Also, i had installed windows update through the windows update on my computer (when shutting down windows it automatically installs). My second factory reset was when i did not install any new drivers or update and just steam, and i was still getting bsod. I am on my third factory reset and i am still getting bsod, this is after no steam and no windows update and the only driver update was java to test out whether or not playing games was causing it. I only have games on steam, and i did not want to download it so i logged into an online game (runescape that i used to play a while ago to test it out). Again, i am getting bsod. i have come to a conclusion that bsod is only when playing games now or just drivers, and not related to windows update. Please help me determine the problem as i can still return my pc if it is defective (60 days warranty). The persistent bsod codes are 3b and 1 e.

it is a bone stock pc (it has factory 300w ps, which i think is under powered)

thanks,

i will try all of these. I have never over clocked, it is a factory pc (nothing swapped). Last time i tried to install SP 1 i was getting more bsod. I do have lack of updated because i thought updates were causing this problem. I did system memory test that came inside my pc, and it said everything was ok and did 2 passes 2 times. I also did sfc/scan now, found no problems. I also did chdsk and no problems there either. I am getting less bsod, but now it just turns off my screen, the computer seems to be on, but there is nothing on my screen, the mouse has no power and the keyboard doesn't either. I have to do a reset, and everything is ok then.

I really appreciate the reply and your help

Memtest86+ does more intensive memory tests than those included with the system. I would still recommend running it.

Given the behavior you describe, I suspect either an overheating issue or graphics issue. It could also be a short of some kind. Proceed with the steps outlined above and install all Windows updates when you are able to. I think the hardware tests are more important at this time.

Hi, i have not had a bsod today! I have installed all of the windows update, i just have 1 install service pack 1, i hope it doesn't cause problems this time. I ran the video memory stress test, and this is what it said so far for 1 test. I will do more tests tomorrow before work. I did not understand anything about "real temp" or how to use it. But, i did download speccy (very cool!).I am afraid to use furmark because i don't want to burn anything. I have attached speccy zip file, if you can dig anything from that...I talked to my brother and he noted that 300w power supply seemed to be under powered, and that maybe the graphics card cant draw enough current under load or something... I have also noted that the pin fin heat sink (the one next to the main heat sink with the fan) is very hot... is it suppose to be like that?

Changing video mode to 640x480x16...OK
[3/10/2012 12:56:00 AM] Test started for "Primary Display Driver (ATI Radeon HD 5570)"...
Trying 16bpp RGB:565 mode...OK
TEST FAIL (Code: 887601C2)
Trying 16bpp RGB:555 mode...OK
Trying 16bpp BGR:565 mode...NOT SUPPORTED (Code: 80004001)
Trying 32bpp RGB:888 mode...OK
Trying 32bpp BGR:888 mode...NOT SUPPORTED (Code: 80004001)
[3/10/2012 1:51:07 AM] Pass completed (0 errors found).

thanks again for taking out your time to help!

also, i could not figure out which service pack file i am suppose to download?
"the links in this section correspond to files available for this download. Download the files appropriate for you."

How do i tell which one is right for me?

7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso - This DVD image contains standalone update for all architectures.

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe - This application installs Sp1 to a 64-bit machine running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Windows_Win7SP1.7601.17514.101119-1850.AMD64FRE.Symbols.msi - Standalone debugging symbols (free) for 64-bit machines.

Windows_Win7SP1.7601.17514.101119-1850.AMD64CHK.Symbols.msi - Standalone debugging symbols (checked) for 64-bit machines. This contains debugging symbols for both Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

do i install all of those with 64 bit or what?

Thanks in advance

You want to install
windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
and any language symbols you need. If your Windows is in English, you only need the executable I mentioned.

It may well be that your power supply is not rated to handle the system you have.
ATI Radeon™ HD 5570 Graphics said:
400 Watt or greater power supply recommended
ATI Radeon HD 5570 System Requirements.

I would recommend 500-750 Watts to give yourself some leeway for other peripherals.

We need the actual crash reports to see if they provide any more useful information.

What were the results of the hardware tests? Can you be more specific than saying you did all the steps? What steps have you done and what were your results?

Did you replace the power supply, as well?

just bought these two items, i will let you know once they get here after 3-4 days. I have done some more research and a problem could be with the motherboard where ram connects? speccy says all four slots are used and that there is ram there and shows stats in it. i ran mg video memory stress test for 4 more passes, and 0 codes. I am going to run prime95 just now. I have been browsing for the whole day today and no bsod. I have not played a game, it usually only happens when i play a game.

ok so i started prime95 and after like 2 minutes my screen shut off, but my computer was still on.... no power to mouse or keyboard. i was watching my temps motherboard and processor were only at like 39 degrees.. what could be the cause?? no bsod or anything..maybe graphics card related?

now this was with the third option on prime95 * think it said extensive memory testing.

I did a reset and am running again same option and temps are at 51 degrees and its running fine... that was so random?

ok so it has been running for 2 hrs and no problems what so ever... 640k,8k, 720k, 12k, 800k, 20k,896 = all say "passed!"

i took out all the ram and reseated it again (did it once before), but this time i put different memory in different slots. I have been trying to cause bsod, but it has not happened today. I have been playing all my games full settings and the things that used to caused bsod i tried to replicate them. It has not happened YET. wish me luck, i hope everything is solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still have like 10 days of warranty to return, i hope its all solved so i don't have to return it! You have been a great help! was a good learning experience regardless.

I did buy this computer new open box online, so i am guessing during transit, stuff became a little loose or something. Going to play hard for the next 5 days to force a bsod, if nothing happens then i will consider the problem solved.

it was either faulty motherboard or hard drive. The ram problem was fixed and 3b and 1e errors were gone. 1A was still persistent and windows randomly failing. I have since bought a new pc. Thank you Writhziden for all your help!!!!
