BSOD problem

"Many a people cannot follow instructions. Everybody is not equally computer savvy" - REALLY ?

I follow what you said and install SP1, Windows updates, but when I tried to update jraid driver, I've got this message:

Where is my fault there?

If you cannot update the JMicron RAID driver, whatever the reason may be, only two ways are left for you.

  1. Break the RAID, set the storage controller to anything available (AHCI preferred; but if it is not there, ATA or IDE) and do a clean reinstall.
  2. Accept the BSODs as a part of life.
Explanation to why clean reinstall: The continued issue is the JMicron SATA driver, which you cannot update. If it cannot be updated, the only way to avoid the BSOD is to disable it. To disable it, you have to disable RAID, and change the storage controller mode.

Now, whenever the storage controller mode will be changed, the computer will not be able to boot into windows at all. Because windows can boot only with the storage controller mode on which windows was originally installed.

And that is why a clean reinstall is the only feasible solution, provided the driver is not updated.

Acceptance or refusal, rest is on you.

Thanks for your response!
I'm going to setup storage controller to AHCI.
P.S.
What is the purpose to use AHCI?

AHCI is a better and trouble free storage controller.

In your case, you must to change the storage controller mode so that windows stops using JMicron RAID driver. So AHCI should be the first alternative choice.

I changed to AHCI and looks OK. (for now), but after this, some strange thing happened.
Before changing IDE to AHCI, I had my disks in alphabetical order. It means first hd was C:\ second D:\ .....
Now, first is F:\ , second E:\, third C:\ and fourth D:\. What is the reason these things happened?
Am I supposed to fix this and if yes, how?

In explorer window or in disc management?

If it is in explorer window, just right click > Sort by > Names.

If it is in disc management, you may need to arrange the discs in the SATA ports serially.

But, if it does not cause any lack of functionality, you may leave it as it is.

How to do this?

There are connected on the motherboard in order C:\ first and next letters in alphabetical order.
I didn't change (disconnected) any hd, and before they were in right order. This setup changed after AHCI.

I have requested gregrocker to have a look at this issue.

Have you had any more BSODs lately?

If this isn't causing you any problems then I'd leave it. I'll tell you why.

The risk in having a partition preceding C in Disk Mgmt is only if it is Primary. If so it can derail the System boot files onto itself during a Reinstall or Repair. This is why we have all other drives unplugged during reinstall and repair but many don't do this and then we find later they have the System flag on a preceding partition on another HD which is undesireable.

You have no such risk so if performance is now fine you can leave it as it is. Of course you'd want to research which port is fastest if an SSD is involved or added.

Finally, I notice you were advised to reinstall. If you have any less than instant performance with never any hangs (our standard) then I would look over the steps involved to do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compiles everything that's worked best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here since beta and works equally well for retail installs. Even if you don't reinstall, the tools, optimizations and methods given will likely improve performance.

No more BSODs. :)
Thanks for this !!!

Thanks gregrocker for your explanation.
For now I don't see any problems. I just don't like if something looks not right because usually in some time later something will start to be wrong.

Hi Arc,

Thanks so much for your help !!!!!!
I think everything is OK now.
I installed "Driver Detective" and it found that my AHCI controller needs update.
After update everything looks right and is working well.
Thanks again for your time !!!

So I link for you the tools, methods and optimizations which have worked best in tens of thousands of installs since Win7 was released - including how drivers are best handled in the first driver-complete OS - and your response is to install a driver program which no one here would ever recommend?

Did you even enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to Check for Updates to see what driver Win7 wants?

 Hello?

Take their advice, do not install any driver 'fixing' programs, they cause a lot of issues.
They install buggy or outdated drivers that cause more problems than what you started with.

Hi,

I did not allow the automatic delivery drivers through Windows Update. I didn't know that I can set the update in this way. Thanks!
This app does not do anything automatically. It turned out that my AHCI driver needs updating. Because my problem was related to AHCI, I thought that the update would solve this problem. Fortunately, that did it.

P.S.
I'm not going to use this program again. I don't like 'fixing' programs, and I know that very often they cause a lot of issues.

Thanks Guys !!!

Well then you'll probably be OK.

But pull in all of your Important and Optional Windows Updates now to be sure you have the drivers and patches that Win7 wants and needs to perform best.

I installed "Driver Detective" and it found that my AHCI controller needs update.
Hi zungul.

I am worried.

The settings I suggested you should install msahci.sys as the AHCI controller; which is windows system native AHCI controller and should not be detected any updated by any third party tool. I am afraid that you might have done a wrong thing.

Please let me see. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Third party driver identifier programs are never trustworthy at all. If you want to take care of the drivers, do it yourself. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/314096-drivers-find-update-outdated-drivers.html
