BSOD-RAM Issues?

So my HP laptop running Windows 7 32 bit has started to have lots of BSOD's. Usually with an error saying something like "Dumping Physical Memory to Disk". I think its some sort of ram faillure. Whenever my ram usage increases the BSOD occurs. So far ive used a win7 repair disc to run the memory diagnostic, which told me that it had identified a hardware problem. I also used memtest86 which said that there were errors (i ran it until about 3 passes).

Its gotten to a point where it crashes immediately after logging in, and the only way to get in without it crashing is safe boot. From there i managed to copy the zip that the sf diagnostic tool generated (attached).

Basically, i would like to know if anyone can confirm that its ram failure, or if if its something that can be fixed (without replacing ram).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What about the minidump files I attached? Do they say anything interesting?

I think ive managed to fix it. I removed the 2 sticks of ram, and switched their positions. (put ram stick 1 into slot 2, and ram stick 2 into slot 1). I then ran memtest again, this time i got no errors after 4 passes. (Before i was getting errors within the first minute of testing). I also ran a blend stress test using prime95 and it ran fine for about 3 hours until i manually stopped it. (Before it would cause a BSOD after a couple minutes).

Not sure if theres still a point in checking the log, but its up to you guys.

Thanks.

4 passes is nothing . You want at least 8 Passes . If you got an error when you were running a memtest then run a memtest once more with one memory stick inside each memory slot to find what memory stick is the culprit . If you have a dual channel memory kit replace both memory sticks even if one of the sticks is bad .

Hi Chromium,

Replacing the RAM might solve one problem but it's likely that the file corruption will crop up again in the future if we don't fix it now, especially seeing as the file is a boot critical component.

I'm currently downloading Windows 7 x86 SP1 because I don't have the file on my system (I'm running x64 Windows) and we will get a fix to you as soon as possible. In the mean time, can you tell me whether you have modified bootres.dll intentionally? It can be modified to change the boot animation and I'm wondering whether the file is actually corrupt or not, because I'm surprised your computer boots if bootres.dll is corrupt!

Actually...now that i think about it, im pretty sure that i changed the boot animation after doing a fresh install a while ago. I remember using an app to do it, i didnt do it manually. But its been working fine for quite some time.

Thanks again for your help.

So there's no other software issues?
What could've been the problem before? Isn't it weird that memtest was reporting errors and after switching/reseating the ram it wasnt?

I can't comment on any of your third party software, but we've repaired all of the Windows files so there's no issues on that side of things.

If RAM isn't seated properly it can cause all sorts of problems, as you found out :)

FYI :)

I think this is reffered to as "Creeping Chips" or "Chip Creep" - which is chips that, over time, work their way out of the socket/slot. Chip creep occurs due to thermal expansion, the contracting and expanding during system heat up and cool down. To fix chip creep, users of older systems would often have to remove the case cover and push the loose chip back into the sockets/slots.
