Hello,

I recently bought a new laptop. After a few weeks I started getting random BSODs. At the time I though this is related to VMWARE and other stupid things I have done. I did re-install Win7 after that and BSODs disappeared for about 2 weeks. Now they're back again.

My laptop has a 22Gb SSD on which I keep (only) Win7 installation. There is another 750Gb drive on which the rest of the data is stored.

The STOP code is 0x000000f4. I did a lot of google-ing and the one thing I found is that this is a very unpleasant crash code to get :(

I will note that these crashes come randomly. There might be hours apart, or, like today - after I first booted my system.

The symptoms are: the system starts to freeze. Applications become unresponsive. And then the mouse cursor freezes. It stays like this a few seconds and then the BSOD ensues. At one point I noticed I could navigate on my HDD partitions while I could not navigate on my SSD one.

Windows event logs are incredibly un-useful :( At the moment of crash there's no events logged. The minidumps tell me that there was a page fault in either csrss or wininit. Sometimes it will tell me that I/O could not complete (assuming to restore the pages).

Disk checks - OK, Memory checks - OK. Tried to load a lot on the SSD to simulate a crash and nothing.

>>> Kernel memory dumps and mini-dumps can be found here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B8yTUkxyijMPeTZrdjY5MXlETU0/edit

>> Attached is also all the info requested as a ZIP.

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi,

The SSD is a "Sandisk i100 22Gb". I did install their SSD tool. But it tells there's no firmware update.

Thanks,
Alex.

Thanks,

Will give driver verifier a go. Otherwise will try to use the HDD for the system.
Will post a reply when I get some results.

Thanks,
Alex.

Followup--

1. Enabled driver verifier on all non-MS drivers. Also did install new MS updates the same day. Also installed the missing Bluetooth drivers (Which I usually don't bother with).
2. No more F4s since then. But I a new crash every 2 restarts on boot - 0A. I did find other people having it and was able to trace that to the Atheros BT stack drivers.
3. Disabled driver verifier and no crashes... Probably just sitting hidden.

In any case, I did re-install Win7 to the main 750Gb HDD. I left the SSD for the ExpressCache cache (As was designed).

Running like this. If nothing happens in 2 weeks then I will consider the matter "solved".
I will post a reply here in 2 weeks.

==> For the people hat might search for this problem - the Laptop is an Asus S56CM. Same applies to Asus S46CA since it's the same hardware (except for the screen size).

Cheers.
