Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on a forum.

I have a Dell N5110 laptop that's almost 7 years old I'd say. I've been getting this error over the past year infrequently (maybe once every three months), but starting last week I've been getting the error at least twice a day.

This is the error that shows up:

"Collecting data for crash dump. Physical memory dump failed with status 0XC0000010".

Frequently (maybe once every two or three times) it takes me to a black screen that says:

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device."

Though sometimes it just reboots and takes me to the log on screen.

I've done a bit of browsing around this site before and tried to follow the instructions the best I can (my graphics card is the latest version, CHKDSK didn't identify anything, no viruses or malware either). If need be though, I'm fine with going through the steps again.

Is there any way to fix this problem? Or is it time for a new laptop?

Please find attached the zip file that the "BSOD - Posting Instructions" have asked me to provide.

I should add that I've also gone into the BIOS settings and selected my Hard drive as the first priority when I'd have to "Reboot and Select proper Boot device". That takes me to the log on screen, but doesn't stop any of the errors showing up again (even the black screen one).

Diagnostics Test

 HDD TEST

   Note
Please run HDTune first, in the order posted!

arrow.png
Run HDTune to
  • check the health,
  • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
  • run a benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
  • the health,
  • the error scan,
  • the benchmark incl. following
    • transfer rate,
    • access time,
    • burst rate,
    • cpu usage.

Run SeaTools DOS to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
Run the long test.
   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

Thanks axe0, it will take a while since I'm busy this week but I'll try to do everything.

Hi axe0,

I tried HD tune but I was unable to run a full scan because the laptop kept blue screening (I was also unable to get a health report). I even tried it in safe mode but that didn't work either. I've attached the benchmark and the information though, as well as the result the scan gets up to before the blue screen error happens (and the error itself).

I have attached the CHKDSK log.

I haven't tried out SeaTools or MemTest86+, is there any point?

Your hard drive is failing critically!

If you have not made a backup of your files, do so immediately!
The only solution for this is a hard drive replacement.

Hi axe0,

Is that really the only way to fix things?

Luckily I don't have any important files on my computer (I've moved them), so there's no real need to even make a backup.

Are you able to give me a bit of an explanation on those results? Just for my own knowledge I mean.

Do you know how a hard drive works?

Just an FYI for a next time, if someone requests information about the health/smart, make sure that the 'Health' tab is selected with HDTune. See your last provided screenshot what I mean, it's the wrong tab.

I know how a hard drive works; magnetic spinning disks that have the data 'read' or 'written' on them.

I didn't bother attaching the health tab information because I was unable to even get a health report (as you'll see below). I said that in my earlier post.

Sorry, I missed that one.

Excellent!
0xC0000010 = STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST which means that the request wasn't a valid operation on the specified device. I assume the pagefile had data on bad blocks, taking in factor the slow data rate a timeout of the operation could also give problems with this operation.

I see; then it seems like hard drive replacement will be the best/only way to fix things.

Thank you for your help, I'll mark this thread as closed.
