I've been having intermittent BSOD problems for months but it was never really BAD until returning from a month long vacation. Now it seems to happen all the time. It's occurred loading Blizzard Launcher (video games), opening Chrome, during a full-scan CHKDSK (the one with 5 steps, which my roommate insists is the in-depth scan). It can't complete a CHKDSK without bluescreening now, though I did notice it found several bad sectors in the DVD maker section. Crash codes have included 0x0000003d and 0x0000004f.
I don't know enough about computers to be sure but I thought it might be due to my new-ish RAM, and in examination discovered that of the 6 slots my computer has (3 sets of black/blue pairs) the leftmost pair does not register at all and the computer will not post from there. As is it doesn't post unless there is RAM in the blue slots, so right now I have 2 sticks of 4gb (my new RAM) in the black slots and the original two 2-gb sticks I had in the blue slots. Submitting now just in case this crashes again (it did about 10 mins ago while typing this up) but I'll update.
EDIT #1 - I did disable all startup programs and it seemed stable when I ran in safe mode. In googling problems earlier someone suggested it might be related to wifi card driver so I tried to update that manually... but it crashes without loading the install-shield. In typing this up I had an interesting crash where chrome first became unresponsive, an error came up saying 'tried to reference memory at (numbers), does not exist' and then chrome closed. In attempting to reopen Chrome, windows couldn't find the directory and asked if I wanted to delete the shortcut. I looked at my computer and there wasn't anything listed in C:/... ctrl+alt+delete brought up another error of 'unable to load security options, if this problem persists restart your computer'
