I got a BSOD on a freshly installed Windows (installed two days ago), with all the latest updates from Windows Update and the latest video driver.
BSOD happened randomly when opening a game (haven't had a problem with any other games, even graphically taxing ones)

It has only happened once, but i assume it could happen again.

Thanks

A stray BSOD may be considered as a glitch only. A recurring BSOD needs utmost attention.

But it seems that you want precautions. So .... a stop 0x116 is a display related issue. The most frequent possible causes are

  • Graphics driver;
  • Graphics card;
  • Overclocking;
  • Overheating;
  • Dust Allocation inside the computer;
  • Some fault from the part of the games.
What you need to do there are ....

1. As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

2. Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

3. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

4. Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

5. Some cards dont do good with 14.12 WHQL. Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then install the CCC 14.4 WHQL only.

6. Make it sure that there is no dust allocation inside the computer.
