BSOD randomly with new computer - Last error code 3b

I have been having issues with BSOD periodically. Updated a USB driver that Devise Manager showed an issue with and that worked for a couple weeks, but blue screen returned. Suspect it could be a bad memory module (have two 4GB DDR3), but don't know how to test. Attaching minidump files. Have memory dump, but very large and did't attach. Any help appreciated.

Uninstall Norton and install MS Security Essentials and MalwareBytes.

   Note

Make sure you uncheck the 'Enable Free Trial' box when installing.

Download and run MemTest86+ to test your RAM. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

   Note

Run MemTest86+ for at least 8 passes. Ideally set it off before you go to bed and leave it overnight, we're looking for zero errors here. A single error will show something's going bad with your RAM.

Test the system after replacing Norton and post back the MemTest86+ results. There may be more steps to take.

Thank you Boozad! Memory tested good. Uninstalled Norton 360 and installed MS Security Essentials. Already had Malwarebytes. Will give it a week to see if this ends my BSOD problems. Thanks again.

Can you confirm that MemTest86+ ran for 8 complete passes?

I ran it overnight, but am not familiar enough to know where to see it made 8 passes. I will do another test on the memory tonight to see.

Diagnostic Test

 DRIVER VERIFIER

Driver Verifier will stress your drivers and cause BSODs if any fail. Follow this tutorial to enable/disable it. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html

Enable Driver Verifier but only enable these options:

• Standard settings and IRP logging step 3.
• Don't enable Force Pending I/O Requests

   Warning

Make a System Restore point before enabling Driver Verifier.

   Note

Your system will act very sluggishly while DV is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

Post any resulting dump files.

I followed the tutorial and verifier is testing all non-mirosoft drivers for about 16 hours. Don't notice any real slow down in the computer. How long do I keep it running? No problems yet.

Give it up to 48 hours. Hopefully a driver will have caused a BSOD by then.

Haven't had any problems with BSOD. It's been running Backups and I've been using a few days. I'm going to turn off verifier and mark as solved I guess. Thanks for all your help Boozad!

No problem. The first dump isn't any use, it's a 0x1E that carries no useful information at all. The other, a 0x7A is also inconclusive. Can i ask when these BSODs happen? Is it when performing backups by any chance?

I believe that is probably the case. The last couple of times it has happened, I was gone and came back to find my computer shut down. My computer backs up itself and two other network computers overnight, but not every night. My computer successfully backed up last night at 1 AM. The other computer was set for 2 AM, but it was shut off and Genie Backup Manager PRO 9.0 did not register an attempt to back it up. Usually if a computer is off it leaves a very small file with not backed up data.

Could you run without Genie Backup for a while, maybe switch to imaging temporarily just so we can rule that out?
