windows installation is not very old weeks-months
im on windows 64-bit home premium
it was a upgrade from vista cd
all hardware installed christmas except hard drives which are abit old but ran fine on xp

Have you recently switched from an ATI video card? There are remnants of it on your system.
Please uninstall all ATI video stuff (but NOT any AMD chipset stuff).

Here's why I'm concerned about the ATI video:
AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems.
Please uninstall all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Uninstall". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

did hard drive scans one of them crashed during scan so right clicked and used check now to repair. uninstalled AODDriver4.01 couldnt find AODDriver2.sys and never had ati but my mobo might have one built in not done any overclocking on this thing and im still having BSOD's

AODDriver2.sys is a royal PITA.
Here's the second set of instructions that I've written for this:
If AODDriver2.sys is still present and the software/device isn't present and the driver isn't needed - then please do this (thanks to jcgriff2):
Bring up elevated Admin cmd prompt -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | "Run as Administrator" | type/ paste the following -

where /r c:\ /f /t AODDrive*.* > 0 & start notepad 0
It may take a few minutes.

Then:
- create a System Restore point.
- create a System Repair disc and ensure that it works. To do this, go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
- uninstall all ATI video stuff using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program (this may make the next 3 steps unnecessary - if so, just continue on).

- check in services.msc to see if there is an AOD service. If there is, set it to "Disabled" for the startup type.
- then disable any startups that name AODDriver2.sys using Autoruns (free from here: Autoruns for Windows )
- rename AODDriver2.sys to AODDriver2.BAD (it's probably in C:\Windows\System32\drivers)
----------01 June 2012 - Owner found AOD in C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64

- reboot and see if that fixes the problem(s). Check in C:\Windows\System32\drivers (or the other folder) to be sure that it stays renamed.
- install fresh video drivers using the procedure here: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure
DO NOT install the full Catalyst Control Center package!!!

my PC just turned off no warning or anything while playing again accidentally pressed check for solution so didn't see what error was when i turned it back on

i dont think dump completed cant see any new dumps also i keep getting a pop up saying something like nvidia driver kernel 301.42 has working and recovered

The "recovered" thing is actually a BSODish sorta thing (STOP 0x117 error). They are very similar to STOP 0x116 errors and are troubleshot in the same way: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...op-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html

You may have to remove the current drivers before downloading and installing a fresh set (as your drivers may be the most recent one's available).

What instructions? For the drivers - uninstall the old software/drivers, download fresh software/drivers, install the freshly downloaded software/drivers.

As for the STOP 0x116 -
- try newer drivers,
- make sure you don't touch the stuff inside the case unless it's unplugged from the wall and you've grounded yourself to the metal of the case.
- check to make sure power is getting to video card (check to make sure cord is firmly seated - if so equipped)
- check to make sure fan on video card is running
- check to make sure cooler on card isn't clogged
- check to make sure airflow is adequate to get to card and cool it.
- try another video card

Go ahead and post the next dump when you get time (we probably won't find anything different).

You may want to try Driver Verifier to see if it'll reveal an offending driver name: Driver Verifier Settings

Backup, Wipe, and "Clean Install" of Windows
For testing purposes, it's best to install Windows "clean".
This is, basically, installing it the way that Microsoft intended (using drivers from Windows Update).
This procedure is for Windows 7 and Vista.

You will need your installation/recovery DVD(s) before you start. Once you wipe the hard drive there's no going back!!!

1. Backup all your data.
This will wipe everything off of your hard drive, so anything that you want to keep will need to be saved elsewhere.

NOTE: If this is due to an infection, remember to scan the data with another system's current antivirus in order to locate and remove any malware.
NOTE: Disconnect any additional hard drives (internal and external) that you may have installed. This may break any multi-boot setups that you have, so be prepared to conduct recovery operations on them once you're done. Don't forget that, if this is due to an infection, the additional hard drives may be infected also.

2. Connect the system to the internet (if the system says disconnect from the Internet, then do so).

3. Use one of these free utilities to wipe the hard drive clean:
KillDisk ( Freeware Download Active@ KillDisk ).
DBAN ( DBAN Download | Darik's Boot And Nuke )
This will also delete any recovery partitions on the system - so the installation/recovery DVD's are essential!!!

4. Install Windows by booting from the installation/recovery DVD - DO NOT tweak any settings!!!

5. Visit Windows Update and get all updates

6. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)

7. Visit Windows Update and get the Service Packs for your system. (usually under Important Updates).

Search Google/Bing for installing other OS's Service Packs.

8. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates

9. Download, install, and update a free antivirus so you don't get infected while testing ( Free AntiVirus ).

10. Test to see if the problem remains.
If the problems persist, then the problem is most likely with your hardware.
If the problems are gone, then proceed with installing the latest version of your favorite programs, testing after each one for errors.

CAVEAT: If you have an Asus motherboard, check the date on the C:\Windows\System32\driver\ASACPI.sys file. 2004/2005 is a problem, 2009/2010 is OK. Updates are available at the Asus support website.

CAVEAT: If you have a Sony system, make sure that you DO NOT have the 2007 (or earlier) version of the Sony Firmware Extension Parser (SFEP.sys). Update this driver immediately!!!

a few things ive noticed it only really happens on online games also is it ok if i restore from oem cd i got with it its a vista cd and i have upgrade to 7 aswell?
